Milk

I was writing on my profile about the experience I had with milk last night. It was horrible. Does anyone out there drink milk or have it with any meals? I don't believe that I will do that again.

I found out after surgery that I am lactose intolerant. Milk gives me bloating, burping, gas, diarhea, etc. I started drinking fat free Lactaid brand milk with Soy protein. It does taste different but I can handle it much better, plus it has 14 grams of protein per 1 cup serving. Sometimes I still eat sugar free ice cream, just put up with the problems. This may not be your problem, but it is a regular occurance after RNY.

i mix my protein shakes with 8 ounces 2% milk. per docs orders. I have two per day usually and so far no problem. What do you mean, have it with meals? You mean as an ingredient or to drink with meals? We are not supposed to be drinking with meals. i don't cook with it because i rarely eat anything except cheese, eggs, nuts, cottage cheese and a little bit of meat.

Welll, I don't usually have milk with meals but last night my son came home with a new type of cereal. I had a bowl and oops, it was bad. I knew that was a no no because of the carbs, but I had to try one bowl with my son. No more, though. Bad idea.

I was drinking some milk because I craved it so badly. I had no side effects luckily. I was so glad because I love milk so much. But, I'm not supposed to be having it yet so I was cheating with it. I found that it kept me from losing any weight the 2 weeks I was drinking it so I cut it out and it has been really hard. I did chug some after eating something one day (I was sooo thirsty) and it hurt so bad going down and then it all came back up. Unfortunately that didn't stop me. I can't wait until I get it back "legally". I have tried the Low Carb milk at Wal-Mart. It's too sweet for me to drink but I bet it would be good on cereal. I also found a low carb cereal with almonds at Wal-Mart. It wasn't great but it wasn't bad either. Laura Johns

I had my first glass of milk at 2 weeks post op and it was the best milk I had ever had! I have always been a milk drinker. However, around 3 months post-op, I started having trouble with the milk sugars. I was bummed out big time. I've now been drinking the Carb Countdown milk. The milk sugars and carbs are MUCH lower and the protein count is higher. Works for me. I still miss my skim milk, but it has been a change for the better for me.
