Hi! I'm new here, but I've been "watching" you all at work - though I can't participate. Does anyone know if obesity is covered by a former policy as a pre-existing condition? Humana has given me the blues for 5 months about authorizing my surgery. It is covered by BC/BS - my former employer. They said it was covered under my policy and they will pay as long as it was pre-existing. Have I found an answer to my prayers?

Hi Jenn, my name is Laura. I had Humana and all they needed was proof that I'd tried dieting, like Weigh****chers, Jenny Craig and that I have the comorbitites (blood pressure, etc) to warrant surgery. I don't know why they've given you so much trouble. After I'd met all the criteria I was approved in one day. My surgeon's office was a big influence in that though as they took care of all my test appointments for me, like all the blood work, stress tests etc. Are you going to continue with Humana or go with your former employer? Good luck though, if it was meant to be everything will work out for you. Laura Johns

If there was no lapse in your coverage it is not considered pre-existing for ins. purposes.
