Hi I am looking into having LAP Band Surgery here in KY. What kind of experiences have people been having with getting their insurance companies to pay for it. I have Humana. Their aren't any exclusions ffor weight loss surgery but it has to be mmeddically neccesary. My computer is stuttering tonight. Cherie':o}

Cherie, I am in the process of getting an approval from my insurance. "hopefully" I don't have Humana though. Dr. Jeffrey Allen's office sent paperwork to them over a month ago and they were to have an answer within 30 days. So far I have called them at least twice a week to keep up with what is going on, and have just been confused by the Pre Cert RN most every time she tells me something. I called last Tuesday and she said that I had been approved but they needed some additional information from the Dr's office which they sent that day. Called back on Thursday to see what the status was and she said that the paperwork is still in the fax machine waiting to be sent to the Medical review board. I asked her what was going on and she gave me some run around about a lifetime cap on the surgery "lap band" our policy states a $2million lifetime cap on each participant on the policy - no exclusuions about WLS. Called again this Tuesday and she is giving me a story about the surgeon not meeting criteria set by Millim & Robertson Credentials? Called pre cert at Dr's office and she said that I hadn't been denied yet to wait and see when we get an answer before wigging out. Which I have been I guess...... sorry to scare you. I just hate being lied to just for the purpose of giving an answer to someone. You can go on the insurance providers and see how Humana has been about paying for the insurance. Seems like I have seen several people approved by Humana. Just go through some of the profiles and it should tell you what insurance they have. Best of Luck on your Journey. Sorry to ramble on ya..... God Bless, Paul

A man in our group at Georgetown had the lap band and he had Humana as well, through UK like me (but I had RNY). He had no problems getting approved and was approved in a few days.
