Hair Loss

I am now almost 4 mos post op and down a healthy 82 pounds! I'm getting in my protein and vitamins everyday. My biggest scare now is this extreme hair loss. I know my surgeon said this would happen, but I didn't realize how much I would lose. It's really starting to scare me. I'm on a mission to hit the century mark by my 40th birthday on Dec 28, but I don't want bald spots when I celebrate. Does anyone know approximately how long this will last? It's been going on about a month. It's coming out in handfuls when I wash my hair. Does anyone know if the fishoil helps any ? My hair is also very dry and brittle. Laurie

I am eight months out and my hair is still coming out but I think it has slowed down a little and I see some new hair. I got two bald spots on the side of my head in my temples and it is coming in gray. I think a whole lot of it has to do with the anesthesia. I had surgery last year unrelated to wls and it came out then also. I don't think any amount of fishoil or any vitamins or shampoos will stop it altho some say it does. If you are one of the people that are gonna lose hair, you will just lose it. But take heart. It will come back. (someday) My hair also got dry and brittle but that didn't last long.

It will just happen. I did use nioxin to keep what i did have healthy. But the hair loss is an individula thing...some do ....some don't. I DID!
