I'm looking for a GOOD protein drink. Is there any such thing. I bought the expensive Atkins ($7.96 for 4 at Wal-Mart) and it was yucky. It was chocolate. Am I just going to have to learn to tolerate it or is there a better product out there? I've heard the one at the doctor's (Nighbert, Steiner, Greenlee) is not very good. Any suggestions? Laura Johns

Laura, The best thing I have found is Nectar. This can be ordered online at www.wlssuccess.com. I have tried the Apple Ecstasy and the Strawberry/Kiwi. I like the Apple the best. These are more of a fruity, kool-aid or juice type drink than a milky drink. I really like them a lot! It takes about 8 days to get it after you order. It lasts about 17 days. It's a little pricey, but a lot better than any of the others I've tried. Good luck!

Hello Laura, I do not like the shakes, but have settled on a couple of kool-aid type protein drinks. The first one is a bit pricey, but will give you 40 grams of protein per bottle. I buy it a GNC, it is grape flavored and is called Nitro-tech Grape extreme. Like I said, it has 40 grams of protein, zero carbs, fat free and only 170 calories per bottle. I think it averages out about 3.50 per bottle, but I would have wasted that before surgery on soda, cookies and candy bars. The bottle has 16 oz. and what I do is to mix about 8 oz. of sugar free grape kool-aid to it and the flavor is better that way. The second protein drink I use is from Heralife, you have to go through a dealer, you can find them in the phone book. The box has 7 packets and each packet has 15 grams of protein, 3 grams of carbs, fat free and the flavors are Wildberry (which I like) and peach or mango (I think), I didn't like that one. The only problem is the box runs about $11.00 and you have to drink to them and you still aren't up to the 40 grams that the Nitro-tech has. The Nitro-tech has another flavor (I think Punch), but I haven't tried that. So I think in the long run the Nitro-tech gives you the more bang for your buck. But, it will scare you when you see the price at the cash register, but in the long run I know that I am getting the most for my money. Hope this helps..... Teresa Gash RNY Georgetown Hospital Dr. Weiss and Dr. Oldham P.S. Nitro-tech is coming out with a new-improved grape extreme with 45 grams of protein. Don't know when, but it's coming

laura, I had dr. Steiner and I got the one that they have and tried it pre-op. I got the chocolate and vanilla. You can dress it up with fruit, peanut butter, they also allow us cool whip, a little ice in a blender and they taste yummu like a milkshake. BUTTTT post-op, I couldn't gag them down. Vomitted everytime i tried, so after wasting a lot of money on the more expensive ones that people on the site mention, I settled on EAS advant edge from Walmart. Premixed, several flavors -2-4 carbs, 15g protein and 0 sugar. 4-pack is 5.86. I got tired of those and changed to the powder EAS advant Edge Hi performance Why Protein. I like it because you can mix it with a spoon and drink it almost straight down. A large can is 8.46. I drink two or three a day because i cannot eat meat even at 7 months out.

I'm one week post op and I ordered TONS of samples of various drinks. So far, I'm not really doing the sweeter ones well, such as the Nectar or Herbalife. To me, right now, they're tooooo sweet. My FAVORITE right now is Sci Fit Choc. Peanut Butter. YUMMY. I ordered some sugar free syrups too and I have been adding a few drops of french vanilla to a vanilla shake to give it more flavor. Very yummy. I love Isopure Dutch Chocolate too. I'm fortunate that I'm doing well with protein...it doesn't hurt or anything but I drink very slow. It takes me an hour to finish a 8 ounce protein drink. Kat
