Dusty, I would go to someone who specializes in this type of surgery, not just a general surgeon who does it every once in a while. My Dr. is Jeffrey Allen in Louisville (not very close to Hoptown). He is one of the most renowned Drs. in the state when it comes to WLS. Not saying that there aren't competent surgeons who can complete the job safely. You can look up his information on this site under surgeons in KY, along with everyone else in the state who performs WLS surgeries. Dr. Allen was among the first to be selected by the FDA to perform the Laparascopic Banding procedure. He teaches other surgeons this procedure as well. You may be able to get in quicker at other surgeons, but Dr. Allen is well worth the wait. Best Wishes, Paul

Dusty, I'm not sure where hopkinsville is , but I'm am gonna be using Dr. Nighbert or Dr. Steiner in Lexington and they do the surgery at St. Joes East. I've only went to the informational meeting and met the surgeons there, but I have eveyr confidence in the world in these people and their staff, I also met the PA Karen which is in the operating room as well.... I work in a medical facility and I feel very comfortable and confident that this group will take every pre-caution to make sure my surgery as well as other's are a success... I also understand things can go wrong , but that is true with any surgery, and I am confident that should this happen it would be at NO fault of the surgeons... being comfortable and confident about the people involved in this procedure makes it just a little easier. SO make sure you research very well. Good Luck Debbie

Sorry, I don't know where Hopkinsville is, but I've heard of it. I would love to recommend my Hospital and surgeon. I am 10 weeks post op today and I had the RNY Gastric By-pass. Dr. Derek Weiss (formerly of Louisville and New Orleans) and Dr. John Oldham both go into the operating room, so you will always have two surgeons. Dr. Weiss has never lost anyone and currently performs the RNY and Lap Banding. He is located at the Georgetown Hospital in Georgetown, KY. It is just north of Lexington, located right on 1-75. He has just recently relocated here in KY after working with a team in New Orleans. He by-passes more of your small intestines which gives you a better and faster weight loss. Like I said earlier, I am 10 weeks today and I have lost 61 lbs. If you would like to contact his office you can call 502-863-6809. Teresa Gash

Dr Gaar is also in Dr Jeffrey Allens office here in Lou. Ky, but he only does open distal RNY surgeries w/staples. He is also the head of surgery in the local V.A. hospital, and is very knowledgable about WLS. He has been doing them for 10 yrs. He is a lot quicker to get in than Dr Allen, and I was very impressed with him during the consult. There is also Dr Shina here in Lou that I have heard great things about. Hope one of these Drs can be of help!!! One of my online buddies lives in Tn, and is seeing Dr Gaar now, so there are others that choose to travel to Lou to get a good Dr. Good Luck on your journey.
