I am not trying to start anything here, but am trying to review and see what is the best surgery for me. I know Dr Gaar does NOT do transection and does open RNY w/staples distally. I have heard on obesityhelp that transection is the best way to go. I would like to know if Dr Shina does open RNY w/transection distally. I have seen Dr Gaar for consult and know he is a good surgeon. However, I am concerned w/staple line disruption. He did not explain WHY he doesn't do transection, but (just what i have heard on obesityhelp) that a lot of Drs do staples because it is quicker. Both of these Drs are covered by Aetna. Does Dr Shina have a long wait after you are approved for surgery. Has anyone had Dr Gaar and had STD post op? Any and all help with these questions would be greatly appreciated. P.S. Also I have severe sleep apnea and am concerned about being in ICU post-op. I had sinus surgery earlier this yr and was in ICU 2 days, which I was very glad for. I also had some trouble waking up from surgery, and fought the nurses, because I couldn't breathe. Dr Gaar doesn't put his pts in ICU post op. Any help/insight with these questions would be greatly appreciated.

I am not sure what a transection is. My doctor is Dr. Shina. I am scheduled to have surgery this Thursday Morning. I know that I am having the open RNY, distally. I dont' know what the other means. Please let me know and I can find out.
