Expected Weight loss
Hello, This is my first time writing to any of you. I am scheduled to have my surgery, Sept.25th and have a question. My son is getting married Dec. 13, 2003, and I would like to know approx. how much weight I can lose in 11 1/2 weeks? I know there should be more to worry about than that but I would like to look decent for my family. Please let me know how your weight loss went for the first 3 mths. Also, I am planning on taking at least 4 weeks off of work after my surgery. I hope to go back at 4 weeks. Let me know what I can expect and how long you missed from work.

Angela, Congrat's on your upcoming surgery and your son's wedding. I checked to see if your profile showed your BMI or you had posted anything about your size, but I didn't find anything. We can't compare ourselves to others and we all lose weight and inches differently so I'm just guessing but I would think around 40 lbs or close to it, according to how much you weigh now. I lost 109 in 6 months and my weight on day of surgery was 389, BMI was 71 and I'm 5'2. We all lose at our own pace but we do lose, thankfully. Glad to see you come on here and keep updating as you proceed. Take care and God Bless. Susy
Will you be having a proximal or distal Roux? That does seem to make a difference. Most of the post-ops of Dr. Weiss (who only does distal) have lost at least 35 lbs in 5-6 weeks. One has lost 60 in 9.5 weeks. I've lost 44lbs in 7 weeks. Also, I took 2 weeks off from work and I work at a desk job. I actually could have went back earlier as I felt fine, but I had sick days and I took them. Also, I had a Lap Roux. I didn't look before posting to see which you would have, lap or open.
As the others said everyone is different, but in three months you could lose at least 50lbs I'd imagine. As far as what size to buy, I'd wait until as close as possible to get something so you know it fits right.
Good luck this week! I hope everything goes perfect.
