Cravings

Hi Everyone. Am I alone with this or not but I've come to the conclusion that I still have cravings. I hear so often that many after this surgery no longer have cravings for foods. This could not be far from the truth for me. I've noticed that most of my cravings come after I've worked out at the gym in the evening. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Although I am pre-op (surgery date is Oct 15th), I am on a pre surgery diet and I have found tha cravings are almost worse. I stood back and took a look at what I was doing and found that every morning I use to drive into work and plan either a stop at McdDonalds or Hardee's for breakfast and coffee. Well, I realize that even though I am not hungry, once I reach a certain area it hits me to go get my usual breakfast. I decided to change my route and that actually worked. So my advice is to change or vary your routine. Lord we are such creatures of habit aren't we. Good Luck... Hugs Barb

I still want food too. The thing I don't have is the actual hunger pangs in my stomach. I went nearly two days in the hospital without food or drink (I had saline IV) and still did not have those hunger pangs. Before surgery when I felt hunger and did not satisfy it for a while, my head would hurt and I would get nauseated. Now I no longer worry about it. The cravings may eventually go away, but I'm only two and a half weeks out and can't say they have. Stpehanie

Ok, this might seem a bit crazy, but the way I handle cravings is.......hm (this is hard to explain in words). Let me give you an example and then it might make better sense. The other day my husband and kids fixed bacon and tomato sandwiches for their supper. Do you know how good bacon smells cooking, with you knowing you can't have any?! Well, I got thru that only to walk into the Kitchen later and find that they had not eaten all the bacon. So I just picked one up and for about 10 minutes, I walked around the house with it in my mouth and then I chewed it up and spit it out. I have done this several times now with other things, like homemade peanutbutter fudge that my daughter made and corn chips. I chewed and chewed and spit and spit for about 20 minutes. It was really wonderful and my mouth was so happy! Hardly any went down and it did'nt cause me to dump. In fact it made me thirsty and I drank more water. Now this might not work for everybody and I do it in private so not to gross anyone out. But as long as I don't swallow, it doesn't go into my pouch/stomach. If you really find yourself wanting something bad and it's just killing ya, try this, just remember and don't swallow......! Teresa
