Tricare Standard
Here's a little info that may help you.
I don't know why, but TriCare advisors are being told that TriCare only covers certain procedures. If you happen to get denied your preferred procedure, first ask why? Then make an appointment to speak to a TriCare representative in person and ask to see the regulation that states your desired procedure isn't covered and why.
I had a VBG in Jan, 99 and just had a reversal because of life threatening complications. TriCare tried to deny my second surgery by saying "they have never covered the VBG procedure". Which, of course, was wrong because they covered it originally for me. My husband went with me for an appointment with a TriCare counselor. She admitted that she wasn't going to do any research because she was just always told that TriCare did not cover the VBG. But when she found out that they had covered me in Jan 99, she decided to look it up. Lo and Behold, there it was, in black and white.... Tricare DID and DOES cover the VBG. For some reason, it got around by word of mouth that it wasn't covered and apparently no one EVER bothered to check on it.
So ask to see those regulations in print if you ever receive a denial from TriCare. Never take a counselors word for it.
