Hi All I was wondering if anyone on here was a pt of Bluegrass Bariatrics, and if so, could you tell me about them? Thanks and God bless!

Hi, I responded to one of your posts over on the VSG board.  Dr. Oldham from Bluegrass Bariatrics was my surgeon and I was very happy with him.  They are a very skilled group of surgeons.  They have 5 offices across the state.  I'm in Louisville and had my surgery at Baptist East.

Send me a friend request and you'll be able to read my review of Dr. Oldham.

Have a great day!

I personally think that BBSA has two great surgeons, I don't know about Dr. Denk, he was not with them when I had my surgery.   I think their aftercare leaves a lot to be desired.  If you never want to see a doctor again that is the group to go with.

Since this board has not had much activity lately I dug up and old post from where someone asked about them.  This is from January of this year.

I was originally working with Dr. Oldham, but I got a bad feeling from the office staff, so I switched to the Surgical Weight Loss Center @ St. Joseph's in Lexington. I LOVE THIS PLACE! Dr. Steiner is terrific, as is the entire staff. If you are in the area, I highly recommend them.

I had surgery on 6.3 via Dr. Weiss with the Bluegrass group.  So far I've had a very favorable experience and would definitely recommend.

Dr. Weiss is an excellent surgeon, but you will never see him again unless you have MAJOR problems.  That is the problem I have with BBSA besides the fact that they let a NP do fills when she didnt' even know that an upper GI would not show a port leak.  Their aftercare staff needs bettter training.  They let my problem go on way too long when in fact they should have talked to him when they pulled out what one of the PAs called "dark green stuff from my port."  I knew it was old blood but she didn't realize that but since she contaiminated it with fresh blood she didn't want to show it to him.  Therefore I can't recommend the practice.  Bigtime, I just hope you have no problems.  You had an excellent surgeon.

I had surgery with BBSA almost 4 years ago; Dr. Weiss was my surgeon. I have had only good experiences with the practice; however, what Jacqueline said is true: unless you have major problems, you won't see one of the doctors for follow-up care.

Thankfully, I haven't had any problems until recently, and all of the NPs and PAs I've seen have been very knowledgeable and capable. Yet because the practice expanded so quickly in 2008-2009, there were many new, less-experienced employees in some of the offices, and, unfortunately, Jacqueline suffered through months of problems under the care of one of them.

So you're likely to hear mixed reviews of BBSA here. The surgeons (Weiss and Oldham--I don't know anything about the new partner) are excellent. And I have had excellent follow-up care even though I have never seen a doctor since my August 2006 surgery.

If it's important to see your surgeon on a regular basis for your follow-up care, you should look into other practices for your surgery. But if you understand and are comfortable with the system BBSA uses, I feel sure you'll be pleased with your surgery.

Kathy you are partially right on mine and the new people.  Yes, Lori in Hazard punctured my port, but Tracy in Lexington was the one that should have discovered it quicker than she did, she was an experienced one, so you can't say it was just the new ones.  The only new one I saw was Lori Howard in Hazard.  I pretty sure Howard is her last name.  She was sweet as she could be but lacking in knowledge.  I still can't believe she tried to order an Upper GI to see if my port was leaking.  I know of two other people now that she ha*****tured their ports.  I just could not go back there.
