Hello all! New and Frustrated

Hello!  I'm new to the to the WLS world and wanted to say hello.  Currently I am working on getting insurance approval (Humana), and I never would have anticipated how soon I would be fed up with the process! :-)
For example, today I had to see my PC provider to get a Letter of Support.  Instead of presenting her concerns about my desire for surgery, I got a 15 minute lecture about how her kids only get Oreos once a month.  She flat out stated she thinks I will fail at this, but in the end agreed to write the letter?!?!?!?!?!  I have decided not to let her ruin my day, and I am just more determined to succeed now.
Sorry to rant right off the bat.  I really am glad to be here and can't wait for this journey to really begin!

Congrats on your decision to have weight loss surgery!
It can be a long but very worthwhile journey.
Welcome to the board.

Welcome to the board! I too have Humana Ins. I did the six month supervised diet, had everything submitted and was approved for surgery in two days! Hopefully that will help you through all of this process. It is a lot of red tape but I think it will be worth it in the end!!

Welcome!  I'm glad that your Humana policy covers WLS.  I have Humana, but WLS is not covered on our policy so I had to pay out-of-pocket 100% fo rmy surgery.

As far as your PCP goes, some are just not that great.  I was lucky that mine was very supportive of my decision.  If you like her otherwise, stick with her.  If not, doctors are a dime a dozen and you can find one that will be more supportive and encouraging to you instead of lecturing you about what her kids eat (which has nothing at all to do with you!).  Every time I see my PCP, she is so excited to see me and gives me a lot of praise.

I am sorry you have had that reaction from a medical professional. That makes me sad. They of all people know what we as obese people deal with every single day.
You are correct do not let her get you down. Give it your best and prove them wrong!  Learn as much as you can as you go thru the process and do your best. It is a tool for our bodies it is our heads we have to do the work on.
I am doing really well with my surgery since 1 April I have lost 133.5 pounds. NEVER in my wildest dreams did I think I would get there, please keep your patience and do what you need to for you!
You can do it! It won't be easy and you may get frustrated with red tape, the scale or your pouch but with work you will succeed.

kudos to you for beginning the journey to regaining your health and life!!

Thanks so much ladies.  Your support was exactly what I needed!  I am feeling so much better today, and I am more determined now to practice new habits while I wait (patiently????) to for all of my appointments and news from insurance.

And so your journey begins.  While you still have the naysayers and the doom and gloomers to deal with, on a positive note, you have many who are already walking this road and are ready to cheer you on!!! I have not arrived at goal yet, but after 1year and 9 months, I am much healthier and happier than I was, not to mention being down from a size 24 to a 16-18.  So, welcome aboard- great things await you!!!

If you are in the state of mind that this is it you want to do what it takes to lose weight, I do not see how you can fail at this.  If you PCP will not support you in your decision, you might want to rethink do I really want a Dr that can not support my well being?????  Its going to be a journey and I will tell you the first leg of getting the stuff together for approval is not a walk in the park, but well worth the journey I can truly say  this is the best thing I did for myself

Good Luck my dear

Don't let it get you down or stop you! Welcome to the world of WLS.... there are many many ups and downs along the way.

Post here instead of "stuffing yourself" when having one of those moments. We have all been there!
