After "dealing" with BCBS for over 7 months, I am finally approved for a revision from RNY to DS w/ Dr. Husted.  I had honestly gave up hope on an approval and when they approved it I was in shock - lol - now I've got some pre-op jitters.  Anyway, I just had to post the news somewhere!  I have had my RNY for over 7 yrs now and have been hating it /having problems since yr 3, lol.

Congratulations on your New Approval... How exciting you must feel.
If possible, could you  please give me some feedback on as to how you went about getting your revision approved. I had the lapband in October 2007 and have been struggling with restriction from day one. with a year I was already at 10 cc in my 10cc band. I am now at 12cc . My doctor (Dr. Rodiguez) said it can stretch to 13cc... Well I have one more fill and that will be all I get for a lifetime with the lapband... Something dont add up right... I've gained all but 20lbs of my weight back...so to make a long story short, I have researched the DS and have been wanting and needing a revision. I have a few questions about insurance/out of pocket cost. I want to attend one of Dr. Husted seminars. Could you give me any advice or what I need to do first, second, third....etc... This would greatly be appreciated. My main concern would be if my insurance would approve this surgery (UKEPO Humana). I have had difficult getting in touch with someone in the office to ask questions and there website isnt updated for the 2010 year as far as Seminars....

Thanks,
Sophia

I didn't/haven't got to have my revision yet.  The hospital (Lake Cumberland Regional) are sell-outs and have opted not to do the more "advanced" procedures and stick with safe ones which you and me both know don't work. (aka: lapband and rny gastric bypass.)

I don't know when, where, or if Husted will be doing anymore revisions - but I am greatly disappointed with that hospital, and think they are making a very bad choice by conforming and allowing only lap bands and RNY procedures.

Oh no!!
I figured this was the problem Dr. Husted was having with the hospital. That really sucks (for lack of better words). I sure hope he is able to find a hospital that is in Kentucky and allows him to do the Duodenal Switch procedure.

I agree with you, the hospital is making a big mistake. Sometimes though, it's more about $$ instead of actually giving people the best surgery. If I am ever able to have my revision, it will definitely be with Dr. Husted. I pray he stays somewhere in KY. I don't think people realize how lucky we are to have such a gifted surgeon.
