Dr Shina? (anyone see him)
Dr. Shina is my surgeon that performed my RNY in Oct 06 and also took my gall bladder out in Aug 07. I really, really appeciate his expertise and he is such a wonderful surgeon and listener! I had heard all kinds of bad things about him before I went to see him back in 2004 and had almost decided that I would have Dr. Geller do a lapband on me (then my insurance disapproved the surgery at the last moment). But two years later when I went back and had decided on the Gastric Bypass I went to Dr. Shina and I was pleasantly surprised! He has never yelled at me for gaining a few pounds back and is very interested in all of our wellbeing. He is always very patient and listens to whatever I have to say and always wants me to remember the basics for after the surgery. He is very encouraging and I would never go to anyone else. I definitely think that you would like him as your advisor and surgeon.
I heard Dr. Shina favors the bypass and really does not like the band. He only started doing lap-band a little over two years ago. From the nurses at the hospital he works at, he has calmed down a bit where he was down right nasty to the nurses and patients. If you are looking for some one for adjustments I recommend Dr. Allen and Dr. Geller. Both have their offices at Suburban hospital in Louisville. Dr. Allen was the first, basically in the country, to do Lap-bands.
