Christmas linner(lunch/dinner) at my mama's. Mama, dad, my daughter, my husband, my brother and his wife come home from Louisville and my niece comes home from UK.

We have cold ham, potato salad, and baked beans. Bizarre sounding Christmas dinner I know  but when my dad was a little boy they were so poor that this is all they could afford and my mom makes this for us every year to remind of us of were they both came from and how thankful we should be that we as a family have become so successful, happy, and prosperous.

Then we open presents and sit for at least 4- 5hours laughing about all the memories we have of funny things from the past. Like the time 2 years ago the night before Thanksgiving my brother and his crew rolled in from Louisville. My mom always buys chips and jars and jars of salsa for dad, Wayne and my hubby Pat to eat while they pick on each other( because that's their Christmas tradition). That year she wasn't paying any attention and bought all hot jars of salsa thought it would be fine no one would notice. My brother had a huge scoop of salsa and needed milk my mom thought she could cool it down by putting a jar of tomato sauce into it. Told my brother to try it( insisting it would be better) he does and starts yelling oh gosh mom it's still hot now it's just more tomatoier.
We talk about this everytime we speak or see each other and it still makes Pat laugh till he cries

I enjoy the candlelight Christmas Eve service at church.

Most of my Christmas traditions involve food though - LOL.  When I was little, my sister and I would put up our grandmother's tree.  While we were doing that, she would bake sugar cookies and put red and green sugar on them.  We'd wash down those hot cookies with Hawaiian Punch.  Now when we put our tree up, I bake those cookies and my kids enjoy them.

Christmas Eve service at church is my favorite tradition for our family.  Love the carols, the candles, the Peace that comes in moments like those.  It reminds me of Christmases past growing up when life was a little more simple than it seems to be these days.

I like to turn the lights out at night, sit around and listen to Christmas music and look at the tree all lit up and think about how blessed I really am!!
