I'm losing too much weight...

Hi everyone.  Hope everyone had a great holiday.  This was a sad one for me.  My husband (55 y/o) passed away one week ago today.  If you read The Floyd County Times, then you probably saw his obit.  But, on to my weight problem.  In the past few months I have been consistently losing weight.  It wasn't due to stress, my husband wasn't sick before his sudden, unexpected death.  I lost 23 pounds within 3 weeks in August and can not get it back on.  I am down to 125 and I look awful, feel awful, and have even started drinking Ensure to gain it back.  OK ladies, HELP!!  What can I do?  Never thought I would be asking for help to gain weight.  :)

I am very sorry for your loss and you are in my thoughts and prayers.

On the weight loss issue I believe that I would contact your surgeon or even your family doctor just for a routine check up and maybe some blood work just make sure your not anemic, or your thyroid isn't acting goofy also if you have started any new mdeedicines that may be a side effect. I think there must be a logical and relatively simple explanation.
I would also maybe until you can see the docotor try for a little more fatty protein versus the normal lean protein that we try to consume. Maybe the extra calories and fat for energy will make you fill a bit better.

Please take care Brenda.

Thanks Wendy, it was so sudden. I had gotten in bed beside him for a nap around 2 in the afternoon and awoke about 4.  He seemed fine, but within a couple of minutes he was making gurgling sounds and just stopped breathing.  He had a cold for the past 2 weeks, but that was it.  I've been divorced before and  that was hard, so I have wished many times this week that he had just left me for someone else.  At least then I could call him or see him and curse him out for leaving me.  lol   As for my blood levels, my family doctor did all those about 3 weeks ago and even the iron levels were excellent.  What could I eat that would have fatty protein?

Thanks

I am so sorry about your loss.  Please be sure and take care of yourself.

How tall are you?  I would definately call your surgeon's office.

Thank you tjc.  I am 5'4" tall.  I am wearing size 5 jeans.  I know it sounds like an excellent weight and size for my height, but it isn't.  My DH had been on to me for months to eat, eat, eat.  I have tried, but the food just isn't putting on the weight. My face is so sullen that I look emanciated.

Your profile picture is pretty.  I am assuming you and I are about the same age and I understand if you think that is too much weight.  I am afraid when I do get to have surgery that wrinkles will appear when i don't have all this extra fat to puff it out!  I know I will look older than I do now.  I am 5'5" -in my mind I want to weigh 125 but that must be so scary to continue to lose weight when you don't want to lose anymore.

Thank you for the nice comment. This pic was taken 6-7 months ago at about 145-150 lbs.  And YES the wrinkles do appear more prominent and are even worse now with this extra weight loss. I have extra skin other places, but my face bothers me the most.  At least I can hide the rest of it.  I really liked my body at that weight.  BTW, I am 53, will be 54 in May.

Yep I am 53 also-my birthday is in July.
It is totally none of my business but I did look up your sweet husband's obit.
Did he die of a heart attack?
Do you have a good support system as far as friends and your children and such?
I hope that you do, I am sure you are still in shock at this point-I am so sorry and wish I could offer you some sort of comfort.

His official death was listed, I think, was congested heart failure.  I think this may have been because of the gurgling and the sounds he made in the end as if he was full of fluid.  I think all this was just a complication from the bad cold he had had for weeks and the fact that he spent so much time in bed.  He was so achey from the flu symptoms and he had also had diabetes since the age of 19.  I have a great support system.  I have 2 daughters that adored him and he has 3 kids that just left yesterday.  I also have 11 brothers and sisters, most who live within a mile of me and have been constantly checking on me, even to the point where I want to scream, "leave me alone"...lol...I know they have the best intentions.  BTW I live in Wheelwright, where do you live?
