Hey Sherry,
I don't know about Dr. Tompkins.
I just wanted to tell you that Dr. Ramos at Pikeville Medical Center does the sleeve. This program is a new program and he is new at PMC but he worked in Chicago previously. The sleeve is a great option in comparison to the band because you don't have to worry about any fills. Also it's easy to be revised to a full Duodenal Switch if you don't have enough weight loss with the restrictive part alone. Just a thought.
Good Luck!

Dr. Steiner and the entire staff was amazing from start to finish. I had the best care that I could have ever wanted or asked for. His office is a "Center of Excellence" and they really do live up to those standards. Everyone was so helpful and I felt like they really cared about me as an individual.
Dr. Steiner also completed a fellowship at Cedar Sinai in Los Angeles with the Bariatric Unit which made me feel more comfortable in his credentials. He has done several people's WLS from my hometown in Kentucky and everyone has really sang his praises. I live in South Carolina now and drove all the way to Lexington for the surgery.
Let me know if I can help.

Wow-the issue I have at the moment is I dont' feel like anyone cares about me as an individual.
But I've had my appt. with the psa in the surgeon's office, nutrition counseling, psych evaluation, metabolism test, initial blood work, stress test with my cardiologist and I've completed 2 of the 6months of what my insurance company want for supervised diet with my pcp. I took in 08 WW records to the insurance person on Tuesday and asked her I wanted to see if the insurance company would accept it as weightloss attempt instead of another 6 month diet and she was not positive at all-quite negative. I have been discouraged with the surgeons office-never met the surgeon since I'm not "approved" yet. Do you think I would have to do all that stuff over if I changed WLS places now?

I would say the first step would be to call the office and set up the Introductory Seminar. Great thing is that at their Intro Seminars...all of the surgeons are present, talk about the different surgeries, and then have a question/answer time. They should be able to answer many of your questions that evening with the information you can provide for them. I would almost bet that you could just use your tests from the other doctors office.
I can forward you their phone numbers or internet link so that you can call them. They are soooooo very helpful.
I was really astonished at the help I received. It's never like that with any doctor's office anymore. But I've also been happy with the follow up appointments as well. I never have to wait...when they say your appt. is at 10, they mean it!

I do think it would be in your best interest to check with them at least. That was one of the things that made me feel more comfortable. After meeting Dr. Steiner I just felt that comfort and peace with having him be my surgeon. I think that's important no matter who you go with. I just felt that he took interest in me as a person, not just another patient. I really liked that.
