Anyone had their surgery at LCRH in Somerset? I was just wondering about experiences some of you have had there. I'm scheduled to have the VSG with Dr. Husted in November. I've never had surgery of any kind and have never had to stay in the hospital. I'm so nervous! Help!

Well...Haven't talk to anyone that has the WLS there..but I can say that they was great with my Mom when she had her back surgery. They was very nice and caring. Hope this helps you a little. Seemed like a great hospital

I had surgery there, and I have talked to several others that have as well. My experience was just okay. I had surgery on Thursday, so I had to stay over the weekend. It seems when I was there, they were very short staffed. I waited a looonnnngggg time pretty much anytime I rang the nurse to go to the bathroom, ask for meds, etc. They were also not great about getting me up and walking. Everyone else I've spoken to has reported good experience, so maybe I was just there at a bad time??? I was only there for a few days, so all in all, it was bearable. I also think your experience will vary depending on what floor they put you on.

Congrats on your upcoming surgery. You picked a great surgeon and a great surgery, too. VSG is good because if you don't lose enough, you can always do a full DS. It's not for everyone but that is an option.

Good luck!!

Thanks for the replies! I have heard some not-so-good reviews from family friends who have been there for other procedures. Dr. Husted said I should only be there for 1 night so that's good!

I am very excited about having the VSG. I have been researching the band, the sleeve, and the DS since August. I feel the sleeve is the perfect option for me. I am also thrilled to have such a fantastic surgeon right here in my hometown. Being just 23 years old, I feel like my life is just about to get started thanks to Dr. Husted and his staff!

If anyone has any other comments about their experience at this hospital, please share! Thank you!

I had my DS in Nov 08. I was treated very well  and I did not have to wait  for anything. I had my surgery on Tuesday and was discharged on Friday. My mother stayed at my bedside after  I arrived to ICU until my discharge. She stills makes comments on how nice and helpful the staff were to her.
I  was in ICU my entire hospital stay because they were painting the unit where  the bariatric patients usually go post-op. I have a severe latex allergy so I can not be around latex paint.
Dr. Husted was great I will be seeing him again in Nov for my year follow-up. I can not believe that it will be a year already in Nov.
Good Luck on your journey

I was there foe 3 nights at the beginning of June and the staff was magnificent. My nurse even ran to the local market to get me sugar free popsicles. You would never get that in a big city. Best of Luck!!

You were going in when I was coming out. I was in TCU. Like I said, they were short staffed, it was the weekend, and I know that at least one of the nurses I had was from a staffing agency. I did complain to Cathi when she came to visit, and she told me that she would take care of it, and she did. The lady left me in the bathroom for an hour!

I'm not sure where they are putting patients now, but I understand you want to be put in ICU, as they are great!!!

I am assuming you are a teacher? If so, is your insurance paying for VSG or are you self pay. I am curious because I am a school board employee and have also been researching all the options. Thanks!

Yes, I am a kindergarten teacher. I have HUMANA and it's not paying for my VSG. I'm sure I could fight it, but I'm not. I just want to get started with my new life.
