Hi guys! my name is Tiffany Woods and I had surgery December 2008! My results have been excellent. Gastric Bypass surgery was an GREAT investment in myself! I am sure the vast majority of you would agree! In addition, to being a bariatric patient I am a Student at the University of Kentucky getting my masters degree in Social Work. a requirement of this program is that I complete a research project. I have chosen to do my research project on "One's Perceived Quality of Life After Gastric Bypass Surgery". I am hoping to have atleast 10 participants for an in-depth interview about their experiences since having gastric bypass. I chose this project as not only is therapeutic for myself, but those who participate and anyone *****ads my study that has experienced weight loss surgery. If any of you are interested in participating please email me, [email protected] or [email protected] . Your name and all information gathered will be held confidential. I will provide you with a more formal notice after getting your contact information. Thanks again!

Sincerely,

Tiffany L. Woods

Hi Tiffany,

Does it matter how long ago one had surgery?  I just had my surgery 3 months ago and would be happy to participate in your study, however, I am still early in my post-op journey.

YAY, someone responded! I am so excited. As long as you are not more than 3 years post op! I actually won't be doing the interviews until next semester so by then you will see plenty of changes in your life! I am just trying to prepare early b/c this project is VERY important to me educationally and personally!!!

Why do you cut it off at 3 years post op? Just curious.

Because everything goes to hell after that??

HA! Yep. I figured that's why 3 years was the cut off.

It's only logical that she's going to get great, glowing reviews of bariatric surgery from those who are less than 3 years out. Everything is still fairly new, weight is coming off, not much regain, lab levels may still be good. Now that I think about it, since the OP obviously wants to skew the results of her research, she should probably cut it off at 2 years. She may get into dicey situations for people farther out than that. What a load......

You typed just what I was thinking.
It should definitely be cut off at two. I imagine though, as any good study goes, the results will be very skewed.

ETA: The OP isn't even a year post op yet. *sigh*

Ha! I have enjoyed reading the discussion between you guys. I cut it off at 3 years because my professor told me I had to be more specific and not so broad. And true I am not even a year out so I am still on an unbelievable high, but good points that you guys made. I will be sure to share that with my professor in class tonight! Thanks again!
