Help ...
I just found out that I have gout... They gave me a huge dose of steroids which I won't be allow to have when I have surgery. What does a person with Gout do?? This stuff is very very painful and I'm always taking motrin and thats a huge no no for surgery. When they gave me steroids they gave me a shot. Does the shot or pills make any difference?? What about pills for Gout...no way we can take those right? Just trying to figure out what I'll do when the time comes. Best wishes and hope all is well.

from what I understand gout is often related to food and weight. I would ask your surgeon how likely you are to continue to have flare-ups after surgery. And explain to him/her that you are worried about flare ups and treatment of said flare-ups. I bet they have some idea of post surgical outcomes.
good luck and I hope you are feeling better! my friends hubby gets it and wow it sounds painful

Certain foods can cause gout to flare up, which are foods high in purine and cause uric acid to build up in your blood. Foods to limit or avoid include: beer and other alcoholic beverages, gravies and sauces made from meat, anchovies, sardines, herring, mussels, tuna, codfish, scallops, trout, haddock, bacon, organ meats (such as liver and kidney), tripe, sweetbreads, wild game, goose, yeast and yeast extracts.
Of course, it is important to continue to get plenty of protein in your diet, so choose foods such as: eggs, peanut butter and nuts (if tolerable), dairy products, dried beans, peas, and lentils, chicken and turkey.
