Which surgery do I want? Please do more research.

If you are asking yourself, or this board, which surgery you should have, it would benefit you to really take the time to research all surgery types, and surgeons.

It seems this board is really centered around the RNY and LapBand only. You may or may not realize that other surgery options exist. The long term studies indicate that the DS is a far superior surgery to any of the others. It has the highest % of EWL and a 99% cure rate for diabetes.

Please take the time to pop over to the DS board if you are thinking of having surgery. Ask some questions, look around. I think you will find the best post op lifestyle exists with the DS also.

One last thing, please also take a look at the Revision board. How many RNYs are revising? How many lapbands? It won't be likely that you will find anyone with the DS looking for a revision. You may think you will never need a revision, but the cold, hard facts are that a lot of RNYs and Lapbands do. Be educated.

This is the rest of your life. Don't bury your head in the sand and dismiss other types of WLS. We have a wonderful DS surgeon, Dr. John Husted, right here in KY. Many people are not so fortunate to have a surgeon so close and must travel across the country to have surgery. Contact the office and ask how many out of state patients they have. I think you will find it astounding. Those who know what the best surgery is would travel as far as they needed, bypassing all local surgeons, to have it.

Very good message!
I try to put this out there as often as I can. No surgery is a one size fits all, research!! There are more surgeries than lapband and RNY.
How I wish I would've had a DS.

Oh yes.
He is the only surgeon I would ever trust to do my revision. We're so lucky to have him in Kentucky.

I LOVE Dr. Husted...I am so very thankful that he is here in Ky. and I am actually having surgery with him on October, 9 2009!! I have researched and researched for years and WITHOUT a doubt I am having a DS done. Good luck to all having your surgeries whatever you choose:)

Dr. Husted does more than just revisions but I think it speaks volumes about the need for a qualified surgeon that is capable of doing such a complicated procedure. I can only speak from my personal experience and I have been around the bend for the last 12 years. I started with an RNY, 4 yrs later (give or take) had to go to a distal RNY and then this past May finally went to a DS. If I had it to do all over again and the options were there for me I personally would have chosen the DS but it was not an option at the time. If you have questions about this I would recommend two things ... the DS board and the KY DS support group are wonderful resources to get answers. And this month Dr. Husted is joining us for lunch at Ramsey's on Tates Creek in Lexington on Sept. 19th at 1pm. All are welcome to join just let me or Vickie in a Clam Shell know so we can have an accurate head count for the restaurant. it would be great to have you. It is only about 2 1/2 hours from Bowling Green and the 19th is still within your range so you can eat so come join us. It is a fun group and sure to be very informative but a casual and safe environment to ask anything you want. Hope you can make it.
