IM JUST NERVOUS AND I WANT TO MAKE SURE I AM MAKING THE RIGHT DECISION.............AND WHEN AN INDIVIDUAL'S WLS FAILS DOES IT HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH THAT PERSON AND/OR WHO PERFORMED IT..................
I WAS SET ON LAP BAND BUT AFTER READING SEVERALTESTIMONIALS ABOUT HOW THEIR SURGERIES FAILED AND 7 AND 8 MONTHS OUT THEY ONLY LOST A FEW POUNDS.......... I AM SERIOUSLY HAVING SECOND THOUGHTS ................ SOMEONE PLEASE GET AT ME!!! ~SHANA~

"TESTIMONIALS" ........I GUESS THATS WHAT THEY'RE CALLED......LOL
I too was thinking about having the lap band. But to be honest with ya the thoughts of having a band and port inside me and having to do the "upkeep" of it scared the crap out of me. Having to fill and unfill the band just to get it right wasn't for me. So I chose to have the RNY. Thats my opinion though. Others really like their band and would have it done again.

HOLLI, THANKS FOR THE ADVICE............BUT I JUST WANT TO SAY YOU LOOK FANTASTIC AND CONGRATS TO YOU TOO !!!! ~SHANA~
Actually Shana, your surgery is your person preference. Sometimes the outcome is due to the doctor so I'd research your choice of doctor and talk to a bunch of the patients and see if they had any complications and why.
I like my lapband and it was the right surgery for me but not everyone does. I had the surgery on April 17, 2008 and as of today, I have lost 164 pounds with it. I have always been able to lose weight fast so that might have something to do with the amount I've lost in 15-16 months.
I really think the second thoughts and panic is normal. I was laying in the hospital getting prepped for surgery and telling my hubby to get that mess off of me and take me home. My doctor heard me, told the nurses to give me a shot and I was happy as a lark after that.
Hope this helps.

Hi Shana,
It is such a tough decision and sometimes it almost feels like just as soon as you decided on one type of surgery you hear tons of great stuff on another type.
I have the band and I feel like it was the best decision for me because if I eat too much or the wrong thing there is kind of a nagging tightness that reminds me not to do it again. It is a lot of upkeep but I feel like having to go to the docotor every other month is my reminder of what I need to be doing.
So many people on here have also had a ton of success with the RNY and the vertical sleeve clearly I have no experience with either one personally but I have heard many positive things
about those two surgeries. I haven't heard a whole lot about the DS.
The most important thing to remember is this is not a magic cure all. All of the surgeries require work by you and basically the people you surround yourself with. My husband(has the band also)always says he didn't get fat by himself so he needs help form the people he gained with(me) to lose. That is so awesome that your mom is researching the surgeries to. My mom did the same thing, so did my mother-in-law and she actually had it done 5 days after my husband did.
This is a very exciting and scary journey that you are embarling on the beast advice I can give you is research research research and talk to different doctors it might be a waste of a insurance co-pay but you want to feel extra secure with you is working on you.
I am very excited for you and will be thinking of you as you make your decision. Good luck
Wendy
