Ok another Questions for the RNYers
Some one up above said that they thought I was looking for a "magic cure" or something like that. They didn't mean anything mean about it or anything just getting a point across is all. But anyhoo....I'm thinking very strong about getting the RNY. Just thought a few of you would like to know that. But once again...Thanks so much for the replys. Helps me make my choice alot easier. Best of luck to all you "Losers" out there lol.
I just went back and read that.
That is not fair if there was a magic cure none of uswould have had to had surgery.
Dont let someone deter you have your decision sweetie you are the one to make the final decision and i think its great that you are asking questions and considering your choices.
It is a major decision and i personally dont think you are looking for a magic cure.
Hang in there sweetie

Sebrena,
I sincerly apologize after a day or so I went back and re-read my response to your post and I came off as very very harsh.
I just feel so bad that you are so torn as to what surgery to have. It has to be extremely frustrating. When I was going through it I had the same fears and questions and so did my family. What kind of pain, will my hair fall out, what happens if it fails etc... and my mom asked every question under the sun, she read a lot about RNY and the band and helepd me make the decision( which I think helepd because she knows me better than anyone and my husband is my partner in crime hence the reason he had to be banded to).
I think there are numerous pros and cons with all of the surgeries and you really have to weigh them all out.
I referred to the surgery as NOT being the magic cure only because every time I have a setback those are the words(which I hate) that immediately spill forth from my mom's mouth and it is kind of like a smack in the face that gets me back on track.
In the end I think you researching the heck out of all of them is a great plan. I would also travel to some of the other boards and ask ( just cause their not from Ky doesn't mean there advice isn't any good).
I again apologize to you and the other people *****ad my post. I did not mean to be so harsh and I definitly didn't want to hurt anyone's feelings. I wish you luck.
Wendy

I just felt so bad I very rarely verbally attack anyone on this sight unless they are truely being an absolute *ss. I am usually very supportive( I had a hangover, I very very very rarely drink, I just don't like the empty calories, or naseous feeling in my stomache and was getting ready for church which I had to do morning prayer offering and scripture reading) and if I don't know the answer to something I try really hard to direct you to someone who does.
I just am impressed by all of the research and questions you have asked so many people. I was lucky I had family experience 3 cousins and numersous friends have had different WLS and they were my sounding board so I didn't rely on the folks here as much but I sure do now. Holli(this one time at band camp lady) always has something humerous to say. LeeAnn is very straight to the point and very techinical. Brenda Gold is just a shoulder to lean on when times get hard. Leslie is just an inspiration period when you look at her before and after pictures.
The only draw back that sometimes happens on this blog is some end fighting over whose surgeon and experience is better. I have all the respect in the world for all of the docotrs who are listed that fellow bloggers have used. I also take into account that docotrs are human just like the rest of us and have good bedside manner days and bad bedside manner days. I jsut hate to see any of us arguing especially when you think of all the other important things in life that is going on weight loss wise, personal wise, community wise etc.
I really wish youluck and if I can be a shoulder to lean on please let me know.

Hi! I had the RNY in 2003. I had the open surgery on a Wednesday morning and that very Sunday I was at my brother's house walking around just fine. I remember showing him my incision and staples and he said 'cool' ha ha ha. Brothers. I can tell you that it is important to follow the after surgery rules about not overeating because I ended up stretching out my pouch. I am supposed to be able to only eat a cup and a half of food even at this point out, but because I overate (beginning with crackers) I ended up stretching out my stomach as well as my stoma and at this point I can easily eat a 5" Sub sandwich or a large sized beef and cheddar from Arby's with fries. I can eat about the same as I did before surgery. So, my only advice is to be careful and eyeball your food before you eat it to make sure you don't get into the habit of eating too much and snacking all day can make you gain all your weight back too. I have a sweet tooth that won't quit. It would make me dizzy and a bit nauseated after I ate sweets, but I would soon forget and the desire for the sweets overcame that feeling. Looking at it now, and I weigh 280, if I had it to do over again i would have followed the surgeon's instructions to a T. I would have never allowed myself to overeat or snack between meals and I would have avoided sweets at all cost. And...I would have exercised daily instead of the hit and miss I did. I went into it looking at it that the surgery was going to get me instantly skinny, but you have to follow the rules afterwards to make sure the pouch stays small. I hope this helps, thanks, Pat in Kentucky
Thanks for helping me out. I was told the first time that I had ever heard about gastric bypass that you wouldn't gain your weight back. After going to group sessions and reading on here...I come back to prove to my family and them that they was wrong lol. Good feeling proving them wrong lol. But I am sorry that you got off track and hope that you get back on track. Better late than never as they say. My problem is...I don't snack or eat all through the day, but when I do sit down to eat...I eat enough for my whole family and usually go back for seconds. Before I realize it I've eaten so much that I can't breath and I'm hurting. Which is why I'm hoping and praying that the Gastric Bypass will help me control my portions. I've kinda adapt to trying to keep from going back to seconds and have completely cut out my sodas. Better than nothing I guess right? As me and Wendy we kinda started off on the wrong foot, but we are now helping each other out. Which is why I check on here everyday. You learn something new everyday about something or someone. Best of luck and thanks for the advice. I'll take it to heart.
