Anybody know?  My husband is having surgery with Dr. husted in Somerset, KY...the Duodenal Switch.

I have Humana PPO and it was covered
I owed it to myself to research the duodenal switch before consenting to any other weight loss surgery and so do you.  Check out DSFacts.com and DuodenalSwitch.com for more information.  Remember think twice, cut once, revisions are risky and revision surgeons are rare.

I have Humana with the State ( I work for the KY State Police)  and they approved it on the first request after I did the 6 month supervised diet with the WLS program at KDMC in Ashland and 6 months of consults with my PCP.  You just have to jump through their hoops and they should approve it.  Also a couple years ago they approved another girl at my office the WLS.  So they will cover it ...  you just have to make sure you meet their requirements.

do you know if humana requires the 6 months to be in a row or can you skip over two months and still get approved?

I was told that you had to do the 6 months consecutively.  If you miss one month with either the dietician or your primary care physician then you would have to start all over.

I just found on the web that Humana PPO Optimum has required patients to have weight loss surgery at a hospital that is a Center of Excellence.  This is news to me!
