Hi everyone,

Does anyone know if Dr. Husted has been approved thru Medicare to do
bariatric surgeries yet??

As far as I know the hospital in Somerset is still working on getting it's Center of Excellence accreditation.  Hopefully, they will have it soon to be able to accept Medicare patients.

Pam,  The above info came from the head of the baractric department at Somerset, she says the fees are paid, they just lack the numbers and inspection and it will be a Center of Excellence.

Also, you said you had a 10 hour drive, do you know there is a small commerical airport in Somerset and they are adding more and more places they fly to and from?  I just heard last week they had added several new flights and were only charging like $70 one way for the flights, if there should be someplace that flies in to Somerset close to where you live this could be a big help and big savings for you.

Hope you are able to take advanatage of the airport, that would be the best way to go if you ask me.

I received an email from them and was told they only sent the application in three months ago and it typically takes a year.  So, Dr. Husted's hospital is still looking at another 8 months to be accredited and then you know it takes about three months to be scheduled for surgery.  So, it will be a whole year's wait to have surgery with Dr. Husted.  I just feel so frustrated because i have been waiting since the last of October for my chance to have surgery with Dr. husted and now I feel like it is all so hopeless.  Others tell me i should go on to Dr. Greenbaum if I don't want to wait a year.  He takes Medicare, no upfront fees and takes assignment.  But I live close to Dr. Husted.  I have been so depressed about this, you can't imagine.  Pat in KY

As of July Central Baptist Hospital of Lexington had not received their COE license either and Dr. W and O moved there on August 8th of last year.  I think they actually started doing some surgeries there before that date.  It is apparently a long process.

What type of revision are you wanting, Pat?  If you are wanting the DS they do not do it in Georgetown, but the band, RNY and sleeve they do, Dr. Sonnanstine in Georgetown is wonderful, I just recently switched to him and I am very pleased.

I met Dr. Sonnanstine and he does seem to be an excellent doctor.  But, I had an rny surgery that failed 9 years ago, and i am wanting the DS.  I have done nothing but spit up food for 9 years and have food stuck so many times and still not lose any weight.  I really want the DS and I have heard that Dr. Husted, Dr. Greenbaum and a few others are great.  Dr. Husted is only two hours from me!  My husband is in the process of getting the Ds done with Dr. husted now.  Lucky him.  he has humana ins. whereas i have Medicare.

I would then wait for Dr. Husted to become COE.  I know there was one of bolar's patients in the hospital same time I was and she had problems for years like you and she went to Sonnanstine and he found something wrong with her, she went to surgery and is fine now.
