I had my surgery and am home

Hello!  I posted on the main board a day or two ago (I lose track of time with all the napping I'm doing), but wanted to pop on here and let you all know that I had my surgery on July 1.  The hurdle with the anesthesiologist was resolved with no additional testing being done.  It was really odd.  One day they refused to put me to sleep and the next, they did so without hesitation.  Strange!

I had surgery last Wednesday and came from from the hospital on Saturday.  It's good to be home.  I'm trying to get in as many fluids and protein as possible.  I'm not up to my recommended amounts yet, but I doubt that's uncommon so soon after surgery.  I've been getting up regularly and have done my daily Lovenox shots all by myself.  I'm proud of myself because I wasn't sure I could do the shots.  My husband is very squeamish (sp?) and told me he just couldn't do them for me.  He was going to pay the nurse who lives next door to us to come over and do it.  LOL

I'm taking it very easy and am sleeping a lot.  I am very optimistic about how this surgery is going to help me regain my health.  I was looking through my closet today at all the clothes I have to wear as I lose weight.  It wasn't long ago that I was 100 pounds lighter than I am now.

I hope all of you are well.  I'll check in again soon.

Take care!

Hello Leeanne!

I was wondering how it all went!  It sounds as though you came through it okay!  When do you go for your first post-op visit?  Is it as painful as you had anticipated?  Are you able to get the exercise in?

I am so glad you were able to have the surgery!  Keep us updated!

Hugs,

Vera-Ellen

Hi, Vera-Ellen,

I actually don't see the doctor for another 3-4 weeks.  That's because he took my drain out in the hospital.  Otherwise I would have seen him in a week.  I'm not getting any real exercise just yet, but I am getting up out of bed as often as I can force myself.  My bedroom is at the opposite end of the house from the kitchen, so I have to get up when it's time to eat, let the dog out, etc.

It's hard to describe the pain.  It is an intense aching pain, deep inside.  I am also dealing with nausea.  Fortunately, I haven't thrown up (yet???) and I am thankful for that.  I am extremely weak and wishing that the worst would be behind me already.

I know that in the long run this short-term pain and suffering will be worth it.  It's just not so much fun to go through right now.  I think it must be like childbirth -- after a while, the intensity of that pain fades in one's memory and you can think about the joy of seeing your child for the first time.

I'm going to go try to take a pain and nausea pill now and go to sleep, my favorite state to be in at the moment.

Hugs to you,
Leanne

That is true, Dr. Geller.  I knew that this wouldn't be a walk in the park.  I am taking it one day at a time and know that I'll feel better with time.  No matter what, I needed to have this surgery and I'm thankful that I have such an excellent doctor.  Like I told you in the hospital, I intend to be one of your great success stories!
