Dr. John Oldham...?
Hey everyone, as I mentioned in another post, my insurance company (Anthem BCBS) is having a dispute with Norton Healthcare, which means that starting tomorrow, I will not be able to have my surgery covered in network at Norton on July 17th and I am left searching for a new surgeon, since my doctor only has surgery privileges at Norton.
I am seriously considered Dr. Oldham. Has anyone here used him? I am having RNY done.
I am really very upset by all of this....but I refuse to let it bring me down. I was so ready for everything to just fall in place, and now this :(

I don't know anything about Dr. Oldham. I hope that others here can give you some feedback on him. I'm so sorry about the insurance dispute. That creates a lot of unnecessary stress and frustration for you at a time when you are trying to do something good for your health.
I do have faith that everything will work out in the end for you. Keep your chin up!

As you can see, I had my lapband done by him. I only have seen him twice, the consult and the day of surgery. He was pleasant, had a good bedside manner. He talked to me extensivey at the consult and he talked to me before and after the surgery. I have not seen or heard from him since. All aftercare is with the NP. I was told before hand but have since decided that I do not like it. I have questions now for him that I did not know I would have. I want things done now that I allowed the NP to convince me not to have done (i.e the test to make sure my band is in place and working properly). After my first year I would have liked to seen him just to make me think it was not a wham bam got your money mam.
RNY might be different. My adivice is to ask questions about follow-up with the doctor.
Otherwise I have no issues. He respected my wishes and made me feel very comfortable before and right after surgery. He held up his end of the bargain.

The only reason I didn't choose Dr. Oldham or Dr. Weiss was exactly that. I want to see my Doctor for follow-up. I am moving to the area and after a lot of thinking and checking things out, I decided on Dr. Sonnanstine. He follows his patients and takes care of them for life, even post-ops. I wouldn't like the idea of being handed over to an NP. But to each his own.
Dr Weiss actually did my RNY, but he and Dr. Oldham do ALL of their surgries together. Both of them are in the surgery room with you. I know you don't see them after the consult and the surgery. But I have had a great experience with his assistants. Never have I had a question that they either couldn't answer or couldn't get the answer for me. I have felt great since my surgery. I think you would be pleased with Dr. Weiss or Dr. Oldham. I know I have been.
