Tammy did you go through classes at G-town?  They should have given you something that would tell you what you need to eat or they did when I had my surgery.  Different doctors, but I would think that much would be similar.  Call the office at G-town and tell them you need to know what you should be eating and at what stages.

Do you have access to their message board?  You may be able to ask other patients of Dr. Tom's by going there.  I am hoping to become one of his patients on the 30th.

Hey Jacqueline I did go through the pre op at GT and they didn't have the owners manuals up dated at the time and said we would recive them at the hospital when we had surgery. When i was discharged on the 16th the nurse told me they did not have them ready and we should know what we should be able to eat or not by all the other information we had recived at pre op so i was trying to figure out if I am to stay on full liquids until my next appointment. I'v already lost 13 lb since the 15th thanks for posting Tammy M

Wow, I have not done that well but I had a leaking port for almost 7 months.  I've lost 10 since I had my surgery redone at G-twon on the 11th.  Now I am getting excited to think I am going to change doctors and I think I will do fine.  My doctor tried to tell me he didn't think I had a leaking port just that I wasnt' following the rules.  I figured out right then that I didn't need him after I had this surgery and met a couple of people that really had a lot of nice things to say about Dr. Tom.

I did not have him for a surgeon so I can't tell you what he wants you to do, but I wasn't on full liquids for two weeks but I know some that are.  We also didn't go back to the doctor for six weeks I think it was, and then we didn't see the doctor but a PA.  First time I had seen the doctor that did my lapband surgery was when he replaced my port on the 11th of this month.  Over 10 months later.  See the reason I am switching?

I'm sorry to here thet you had a leaking port but you are in good hands with Dr. Tom. My understanding is the manual has changed since Dr. Tom has come on board. i'm just trying to find out how everyone is doing with the band and how long they were on liquids after intial surgery? How long was you swollen? Thanks Tammy M

Tammy,
Are you wondering what types of food to eat on full liquids?  I had my surgery on June 8th.   the manual I got says.... Full liquids is anything that is liquid or becomes liquid (jello, pudding), protein drinks, skim or lowfat milks, crystal light, yogurt (no chunks), sugar free popsicles and fudgesicles.  It also says don't advance your own diet your doctor will do it at your follow up appointment.  but it's supposed to be days 3 - 14.  My follow up will be like 20 days after my surgery so I don't know if that means I can change on day 15 (Sunday) or if I have to wait until day 20 (Friday).

How are you doing?  I finally felt like myself this weekend.  I have one incision place that still hurts.  It's the muscles underneath the incision that hurts when I bend, drive, sit at my desk...  other than that I'm back to my new normal.  How's your protein?  Mine is not where it should be but each day is a new day.

Let me know if I can help anymore,
Valerie

Valerie ,I'm doing good now I will be going back to work tomorrow just a little worried that I might overdo it, I am doing everything you have listed on full liquids. Potein is hardest to get in but its the most important at this time so i'll keep trying.it'll be around 24 days when i go to my follow up seems so long from now . Thanks Tammy

Be thankful that he is following you.  BBSA do not follow you, well the doctors, their PAs and ARNPs do, but I had no restriction and had 16 fills, I don't believe that they would have done anything to this day if I hadn't told them I was tired of this and was going to go to another doctor for another surgery.  I think that got their attention.

I asked about Dr. Tom in another post earlier this week and only got one or two answers.  I am so looking forward to getting this band working and losing what I should have already lost.

Like I said we didn't go back for 6 weeks after surgery.  Sounds like he is much more on top of things to me.

Tammy - Jaqueline,
You will both do great with Dr. Tom.  He is awesome and so is his staff.  I had rny on 4/29 and had my owners manual a week before the surgery.  I would call them or email them and find out what you are supposed to have but Valerie was right in what she told you.  If you have questions or concerns they encourage you to call and ask...they WILL get back to you.  I called a couple of times right after surgery and spoke to Steve both times.  Dr. Tom is wonderful, he cares so much about his patients and you will see him on all of your followups...thats just how he is.....he enjoys seeing and hearing about your progress and he will do whatever he can to help you....he is a great motivator and he does not judge you or place blame if you don't do well for a week or whatever.....he just keeps encouraging you and praising you for what you have accomplished.  I truly feel blessed that I have him as my surgeon.  Best to all of you.......

Dr. Tom is in Texas at the ASBS (American Society of Bariatric Surgeons) in Dallas this week, I did send him a msg about your question and just got a reply.  He said Valerie is correct, two weeks on fulls.  He will advance you when he sees you next.
The owners manual is being updated as we speak...but he isn't changing the first two weeks of fulls.  That has always been his rule. (my husband did it and thought he was going to die before he could eat..lol  ) but actually he lived through it...LOL
If you need help with the foods on that list contact the office, they can help you with any of your questions..
I am so glad you are doing well!!!!
Good Luck!!!!
