I have an appointment with a cardiologist in the morning. My surgeon's office scheduled it for me. I have never been to a cardiologist before. What can I expect?

I sure hope some of you ladies are online on a Sunday :-)

I didn't have to go to see a cardiologist.  I did have to have an EKG and chest x-ray though.  I had seen a cardiologist last year and had an echocardiogram so that may be why I didn't have to see one.

I think they'll do an EKG on you (very simple non-invasive procedure) and maybe a chest x-ray.  He/she will listen to your heart with a stethoscope and ask you some questions, and that will probably be it.

I hope it goes well for you!

He will basically do a general physical and probably will run a EKG.  sometimes, they will either schedule or do a stress test but only if the individual has any current co-morbidities that could possibly hinder in surgery.   Better to be safe and proactive.

Who is the cardiologist that you are seeing?

The appointment is with a Dr. Kral (sp??) at Cardiovascular Associates. They really didn't tell me much about the appointment, other than I need to be there.

Hi -- I had my cardiology pre-surgical appointment w/Dr. Kral. It's not a bad appointment at all.....from what I remember you answer questions related to if any of your family has had heart problems & they do an ekg (I think) ...but it was a very short appointment & painless.  Best of luck to you!

Hi, I had to do one appt with the cardiologist.  He did schedule a 2nd appt for the stress test.  It was not a biggie.  Just two appts and I had my clearance.  You will be fine.

I had no issues with my heart, but I think it is a Dr. Shina requirement for the full battery of tests, so I had everything!
It was not too bad at all.
Ironically the tech says why are you having these tests your heart looks good?  I said to ensure physically that I can handle Gastric Bypass.  She said YOU don't qualify! I said, thank you but I do and I need it.
So, do not worry it is a good thing.  I know of one person who went for these they found something worked that out and not too long after she got her RNY...it will all go well.

Just wanted to let y'all know that you were right :-)

My appointment went well. It lasted about 30 minutes. They just asked me a ton of questions and then hooked me up for an EKG. The doctor came in, talked to me for a little bit and then told me that he would clear me for surgery.

Thanks for the tips, ladies. I really appreciate it!
