Nutritionist Help!
My surgeon has one, but she is only there one day a week and she is not on my insurance list.
Linda:
Call Dr. Shina's office and ask them about the nutritionist. Perhaps there is one at the center you can visit if you can't get to your regular person. Yes, at Norton Bariatric Center they have offices and several nutritionists there. I paid a fee to go to the Center. I was under the impression I could go back at any time and see anyone there.
I was wondering how you have found the lapband to be success wise? You've lost a lot of weight! You seem to be doing well. Any problems? Dr. Shina doesn't seem too keen on the lapband. Did you have to talk him into doing the surgery? My regular doctor thinks I should have the lapband instead of the RNY. I got the distinct impression from the seminar I attended Dr. Shina is not impressed at all with the lapband. He says the problems and the success rates have caused him to not be impressed with it.
Thank you,
Vera-Ellen
I'm wondering....since you would have to pay for nutritionist appointments because you are using Dr. Shina's Indiana office how much you would end up paying after a few visits? Maybe since you are a Shina patient the Norton's group would allow you to pay the standard $300 lifetime fee and have access to the nutritionists and counselors there? Depending on your deductable paying the $300 dollars may be cheaper in the long run since you will in essence have a lifetime relationship with your bariatric surgeon.
Only other thought I would have would be to go to the horse! Call your insurance company and get a list of in-network nutritionists and start making calls to weed out the less knowledgeable ones.
Good luck!
I don't know what I am going to do yet.
Dr. Shina never acted like the band was a bad idea. He didn't really seem to care either way.
He did tell me (not the nutritionist though, I only talked to her once a few weeks before surgery) to eat ONLY protein and NO carbs. That really worked obviously, but now my weight loss is tapering off and this is not a way of life. I am very limited on vegetables, I can't eat fruit at all. My dairy is very limited. I really only eat meat. That is why I want to work with someone that might be able to get me on track with a more "normal" eating habit and get the last 60 lbs off!
