Dr. Geller's office (Louisville)

I know there are several of you out there that have used Dr. Geller.  I am wondering if you all have ever had a problem with his nurse/secretary. I don't know what it is, but every time I call up there, I feel like I am getting the run around. Maybe it's just me, but it has happened a few times already. They have told me that they will call me on several occassions, yet they don't and I always end up having to call them. It gets a little frustrating.

If I didn't like Dr. Geller so much, I would consider changing surgeons. But I like him. I thought about sending him an e-mail about it, but I don't know.

I just wish they would do what they say they would do, that's all. I realize they don't know what it's like to be a patient, but you would think they would be a little more sympathetic. This is a very serious decision that I have made and I may have questions, you know?

*sigh*

They aren't the warmest/fuzziest bunch, I agree, but like you...I really like Dr. Geller.  Only thing I can tell you is to be a pain in their fanny until they finally do what you want them to or call you back.

My main contact in his office has been with Celisse.  She always seems to be really busy, which may be what you're picking up on.  I also find that I have to call to follow up on things, but I think it's just because there are so many people calling and it's hard for them to return calls as quickly as we'd like.

For what it's worth, I don't think that Celisse lacks sympathy for us.  I think she is a very "down to business" type of person and doesn't really have the time to talk about our feelings, ponderings, etc.  I would encourage you to direct your non-business related questions to the counselors, nurses, or nutritionists at the Bariatric Center downtown.  That's exactly why they are there.

Good luck with everything!  Dr. Geller is doing my surgery on July 1.

Congrats on your upcoming surgery.  Are you getting nervous.  This will be the best decision you've made (aside from your family).  Dr. Geller was my surgeon too and I didn't have any problems.  I did have a hard time getting in touch with him but was persistent and finally got an answer when I saw him.

Keep us posted as to your progress.

I am getting very nervous! Right now, as long as everything goes through with the insurance, I am looking at a surgery date of July 15th. I feel like I should be doing more now in order to prepare.

I don't have any family here in Louisville (except for my son) and the only friends I have are some of the people I work with. And I have not told any of them about the surgery. I don't plan on telling them, either. Part of me wishes I had some more support, but I am not going to dwell on it.

Thanks for asking!

You got support here sista!  We really are a fun bunch and you need to get on Facebook too to see what we are up to.  Don't hesitate to ask a question or ask for support.  I was hesitant to tell the people I work with but two of the teachers had already had the surgery and I knew it would get out anyway.  I've lost 47 lbs. and the people I haven't seen in a while haven't noticed but the people I see at school tell me everyday  how good I look so maybe you can confide in someone for moral support.  People will get an either a cheerleader-"whatever is good for your health is the right thing to do." or an "you could have done this on your own with a diet..or I know someone who had that and  then they----(add your complication here).  But you know why you are doing this and once they see how active and healthy you are they may get a little jealous.

Keep writing and let us help and offer support.  I'm going to the next support group meeting next Thurs.  Let me know if you want to go and we can meet face to face.

It's nice to see/talk to some other Dr. Geller patients. Thank you girls for the feedback.

I just didn't know if it was me or what. I know this is silly, but they have kinda made me feel like I am on an assembly line and that I am just another number, rather than a patient.

And the only thing I have been calling the office with has been business-related stuff. I just hope they know that lately, I feel as if I would rather stand naked in the middle of a busy intersection than to call their office! (Ok, maybe not...but you get the point! )

From what I understand...Dr. Geller is getting to be a very busy surgeon.  Could be an increase in business slowing them down, too.  Still, I really like his office!

I understand where you're coming from...part of it is due to the fact that Cheryl (his former nurse/assistant?) left in the Spring...without much notice.  Celesse (sp?) was with him before & now has 'trained' Pam to do the part that she was doing prior to Cheryl leaving.  Celesse is very good, but not "warm & fuzzy" as someone already said. It's hard to be patient, but HANG in THERE!! Dr. Geller is a wonderful doctor & you will be glad you did...be sure to write down any questions you might have & then get him to answer them for you...he will....you can e-mail him also....whichever you prefer.  Be persistent with the office staff cos they have lots on them & probably get behind & forget to follow through on some things.  You'll be glad you stuck with him...I know I am! :-)

How that I am approved (Yay!) and I have a surgery date scheduled for July, I am looking to become "friends" with some other Dr. Geller patients. I want to become "friends" with lots of people because I need the support, but I would love to talk with other patients of Dr. Geller's so I kind of know what to expect and so we can talk about each other's experiences.
