I wanted to take this opportunity to thank everyone for making me feel so welcome on this board!  I've been attempting to get a past member to come back to OH, at least to the KY board.  She had RNY surgery back in 2006 but has not been staying up this support group.  I would really like to see her come back and will be talking with her about this board, again.

All of you who have had the surgery and had Dr. Shina, were there any specific questions you asked and wanted to know prior to your surgery?  Anything you didn't understand?  Anything that made you more frightened the day of surgery?

Thank you,

Vera-Ellen

I felt very comfortable with him but cannot remember what I asked.  I felt that he answered my questions in the seminar.   I would just write down the ones you think of; and bring them with.

As for frightened I really was not. I worried about the process, but I wanted it so much I was at peace with the decision.  Day of I was frustrated as they put me on npo and I was dehydrated so getting my IV was a%$#^$!!! It took like 11 pokes ...so that is what i thought about. Then after I got it in, I got meds said my I love you's and then remember nothin!

I feel that Dr. Shina gets more comfortable with you the more you see him.  That is ONLY my opinion.  Since I was so far away he had home health come and see me and I think that is a HUGE positive. I did fine and had NO problems (knock wood still haven't) but what an asset it would have been to have that first line of defense if I had been in need.

I was very happy with my pcas at Suburban...they went above and beyond.  Really liked my nurses until my last day.  Thought it might be me as I was on med's but my easy going hubby went to get the car so as not to let them know how I felt.  Mom was not pleased and encouraged me to tell the supervisor about it.  (She worked in a hosptial for 15 years in admin so she wanted me to get results.) I will say I took the time to compliment the great people and then told them of the nurses on my last shift.  I know it was only that nurse (she was training someone to boot...you can bet I let them know that was a poor representation of their nurses & training. ) She (the lead of the two) said that she was not responsible to change my dressing as the doc did not put it on his orders- I saw them later and YES he did and that was one thing. I have to see if I told him that when I go next week.   That was the worst of my experience and it was not that bad.  Over all I was pretty happy the the staff.

Oh, and I had a blip with my blood pressure and felt a bit insecure and he did NOT hurry me out of the hospital.  That was a great feeling- reassuring and good.

Good Luck!
