Graduation weekend in Louisville
Thank you! I tried to update the avatar/profile pic awhile back but it was so complicated and I couldn't get my new pic to work. Technical issues as I remember. Some day maybe I will have the patience to try again. My hair is not totally brown anymore - lol - a lot of silver in the front especially. I think my current profile pic is from 2004 when I was still teaching. I snagged it from the school website and it was the right number of pixels or whatever format is required. At the time I didn't have the energy to make a pic, convert it, etc. I did whatever came easy. (Hey - I still do that! lol)
I gained a lot more weight after that and my face is probably just now getting back down to that size - and my hair... well, let's say I am considering a dye job! I know I look younger with brown hair - but I don't know if I want to keep up with it or the cost of it. One of these days I might just take the plunge and buy a bottle though! lol
If anyone wants to know what I really look like now I'll try to import some pics - they might not work for my avatar, but maybe I can post them anyway? I'll give it a try.

Yeah Cindy! You've lost more weight! You are doing so well! I know Dr. Shina will be so proud of you! Does he 'beam' when you go to him and you are succeeding? I know you are beaming with pride from your own new experience with food!
Move over you bench presser's! I'll be there with you come the end of August!

Vera-Ellen,
Yes, Dr. Shina was very pleased with me at my 4 month checkup! He went through my chart and asked about each complaint I had pre-op that could be related to obesity. (back pain, arthritis, sleep apnea, incontinence, high blood pressure, etc.) I was glad to let him know my family doctor and I had thrown away the blood pressure medicine and the other complaints were better - not cured, but better than before. The thing he was amazed at the most was something about my carpal tunnel syndrome in both hands. I have had it for years - severe/moderate - and it even affected my car driving. I used to have to put one hand down to my side and shake it out while driving with the other hand and then switch because my hands would become numb. I made the 2 1/2 hour drive to Jeffersonville, Indiana that morning and didn't remember my hands going numb even once during that trip. That was amazing to me and he said he had never heard anyone remark about improvement in carpal tunnel as a result of this surgery before. So yes, I believe he was very pleased for me and happy that I had walked in the building without my rollator walker. I can get up pretty fast, walk at a reasonable pace now whereas before my surgery I could walk only a few steps without getting out of breath - even holding my own weight up and standing was excruciating within 10 seconds. I look back now and wonder how I survived all that. I know I felt like I wish I was dead a lot of times, but needed to stay for my daughters. I'm so glad I stayed and so glad I was able to have this life saving surgery!
And Holly Shina! She was a really enthusiastic cheerleader! She gushed and went on and on about how much I was changed and how she could see a difference and how happy I looked, etc. I love Holly and Dr. Shina! :-)
Now, if I could just transfer some of this happiness into cleaning house?!? lol
Hugs,
Cindy

Hi Cindy,
What I really wanted to know about your trip was did you have fun shopping for a new outfit? I'm going to a wedding in July in Florida and I keep picking out sizes too big. I had an RNY in Feb. I thought about altering a dress I already have but I'm going to keep looking for a dress that fits. I'll actually be able to wear shorts and enjoy walking on the beach.
I bet you loved getting the compliments from your friends. People I haven't seen in a while haven't noticed yet but the people I work with tell me weekly how good I look.

Dana - I would love to tell you that I had fun shopping for a new outfit, but I wore the same outfit I bought in March for Easter. It's dressy blouse from Fashion Bug (with stretchy floral fabric) and wore some old saggy black knit pants with it. Thank goodness the pants have strong elastic in them! I have one pair that I walked out of a month or two ago - lol - those need seaming up or better, tighter elastic. I am holding out on buying clothes because #1 I am poor (lol) and #2 I am so close to getting under 300 lbs now I think that would be a fun thing to save up for.
I wore the same blouse for several other events too - I don't get out much! Mostly I wear sweats and baggy elastic waist blue jeans with tshirts or something or other like that. When I get a job (if I get a job) I will have to increase my wardrobe, but since I'm home 95% of the time I don't have to have any good clothes. I still have 150 something lbs. to lose, As I get closer to goal the sizes will go down faster. It takes a good 50 lbs. to go down a size at the weight I started at.
I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to walk in the sand on a beach - I remember doing that in my mid-twenties as a single woman on my spring breaks with family and friends. Teaching was great for vacation time. When I was young, before I was house poor, I used to do fun things like that. Then I bought a house, got married, moved, bought another house, had kids - and haven't had any money since! :-) It was worth it though - I love my girls.
The compliments from my family in Louisville and friends have been great. It really builds our self-esteem doesn't it? I don't see them often enough for them to get used to my size, so it always surprises them.
Thanks for asking,, Dana. I can hardly wait to get to meet you and all the gals who post on here. I met a few of them in February I think (?) at the only support group meeting I've been able to make it to. I hope to see everybody soon! Enjoy your vacation! Wish I could tag along! lol
