New to the Kentucky Board
I have been in touch with a few of the people on this board, but through the main board. I don't live in Kentucky, but work in Louisville and will be having my RNY surgery in Louisville with Dr. Mark Shina on August 21st, 2009. I visit the vascular surgeon and have a follow-up with the hematologist (B-12 too low) next week and see Dr. Shina on July 21st. My preop's are on July 23rd. I am at the disbelief stage myself as I keep thinking they will find something to keep me from having surgery. Believe me, they certainly seem to be trying. I started this journey in February and am wondering if I will actually get to the surgey date! I thought waiting on the approval was hard! I was so excited the day I found out I was approved, but every once in a while I wonder if I've lost my mind to go through such a radical change - and get scared. UP and down my emotions go, as does 5 to 10 pounds. I've been eating healthier and will lose some and then go to Derby Dinner and gain some! (LOL) I don't think losing has ever really been as hard as I thought, but keeping it off was a big problem, and IS a big problem. I've yo-yo'ed for YEARS!
Just thought I would introduce myself and see if I get booted off for living in New Albany Indiana! (LOL) I know there are people who live in Louisville and never cross the river to Indiana - but I come to KY everyday to work at Humana! I've only been in this area for 7 years coming from Ohio originally. But I'm glad I'm here and I hope to succeed on this journey and be an inspiration to other's as all those on this site and this board have been for me.

Welcome to the KY Board! We're an equal opportunity board, so of COURSE you can post here too! I am so glad that you have appointments and dates and this ball is rolling for you. I'm glad we have been able to get to know each other a little recently through personal messaging. I know you're going to have a great result and will be a wonderful member of this board too!
Hugs,
Cindy

Welcome!!
The KY board is a great group of people. EVERYONE has made me feel welcome and has helped me all they could.
I wish you the very best with Dr. Shina I used him to and I like him. I have my three month follow up on the 23rd and we will see if he is happy with my progress. Oh, just a thought Thursdays are his long days.
Have a great day and again

Hi Vera, Welcome. I totally know what you are going through. Dr. Shina is my surgeon too. I remember being so excited to have a date, but waiting for someone to tell me that I couldn't have surgery. Don't worry too much, you will be a loser before you know it. Just jump through all the hoops. You will be post-op in no time. My surgery was the most amazing thing I have ever done for myself. Good Luck!!

Welcome! I for one am fine with a New Albany gal joining us on the Kentucky board. I hop across the river fairly often. In fact, I was in Starlight last weekend enjoying my last fried biscuit at Huber's! LOL
I'm having my surgery two weeks from today. I'm both excited and petrified. It's an odd feeling. I just know that I can't continue to yo yo with my weight like I've been doing the last 10 years. I lose 85 and gain 110 back. Ugh! I'm ready for a REAL solution. I know that it's going to take work on my part, but I sure hope that the surgery will be a fabulous tool that will enable me to conquer this weight demon once and for all.
I look forward to reading about your success!
