Any one in Covington?

Hi, I am a  New Englander who underwent GBS in Oct/08. I have doen very well, losing almost 100 lbs.

I have an Aunt and Uncle that live in Covington that also have considered the surgery (lapband). The problem is that the Dr that they chose left the practice and a new Dr is there. They wanted to have the surgery the same day, but the new Dr does not agree. (I do not either, as right after surgery you may need some extra support from your spouse.)

They need some encouragement and maybe some kicks in the backside. My Uncle is almost 6' and weight 330, he is wheezing and gets out of breath with light activity. My Aunt is about 5' 6" and is around 200. She is taking care of my Uncle's basic everyday needs (this includes bathroom help).

They are both in their 60's, but that does not mean their life needs to end sooner than the "appointed time".

I am looking for a support group in the area that I can encourage them to attend, and maybe a someone who will befriend them, encouraging them to finish the program and have the surgery...and then of course be there as an encouragement after as they start loosing weight.
They are good Christian people and just need somebody to help guide them.

Any response is appreciated.

Hi Daisy.  I live in Alexandria, about 20 minutes from Covington.

We have several good doctors left (I'm thinking of Cincinnati specifically).  My doctor left here and went an hour or so south, but he's still with my insurance, so I've followed him to his new location.  My husband is about to get the band as well, and we are both almost 60.

What kind of information do you/they need?  My doctor's new group occasionally has information sessions in the Northern KY area.  In fact, they just had one this week.  I'd advise them to attend one.

Hey! I'm a New Englander as well (Southern NH) turned Northern KYer (about 15 minutes from Covington)

The above poster is correct, Dr. Sonnanstine is the best surgeon around. He is in Georgetown Kentucky, about an hour south of Covington, and well worth the trip.

If they are too hesitant to travel that far, I'm sure there are several qualified surgeons in Cincinnati. Tell them DO NOT go to the surgeons at Saint Elizabeths in Florence...

Let me know if you need any help!

Contrary to post about "not" using St. E. or St. Luke in Florence or a surgeon there,  there are many people (as I just attended a support group there) who have had surgerys with surgeons there and are very pleased. I am in the final phase before having my lapband surgery with Dr. Smith and I have been happy with everything I have experienced with him.  I'd rather have a Doctor close to my home.

And as I stated, there are several other surgeons close to Covington.

Good luck with your surgery!
