realize band question,
That is correct, the band has been around since the early 90's. With a team of researchers. engineers and surgeons working to perfect it. Ethicon is the leading bariatric division in the industry today.( around the world)....
There is always a chance of complications or problems with any device..surgery , etc. that wil never change though the risk are lowered constantly by research and that team of professionals working hard for us as patients to give us the highest quality...beit,a band or staples for RNY and other surgeries. Not to mention Ethicon only allows the best surgeons to use their equipment..it is true that some surgeons prefer other equipment. But that's how life is. Some of us prefer one type of car, over another,,etc. the band name is a product name and as far as patient having it placed there isn't a big difference between them...But inside and the mechanics it's different for the surgeon. I also know there will be some surgeons that will never use the band for other reasons...Ethicon doesn't teach just anyone to use their products...
And there will always be a patient who abuses the band or who just doesn't get the concept of it being a "tool"..
So I guess what I am saying is within the industry it's politics...one likes one band over another..
patient care it's all in which surgeon you use. How close he stays to his patients watching over them..what he knows about fills and patient reaction to over fills..how quickly he moves and understands the symptoms...of abuse or true problems..
Dr. Sonnanstine not only places the band but also teaches surgeons around the world as well as being involved in it's design. I would trust and ask him any questions you may have.
So rest assured if you have the realize band you have one of the best...If you have any questions please contact me..![](http://images.obesityhelp.com/_shared/images/smiley/msn/type.gif)

Hi Brenda, thank you for the information. I am sorry it took so long to say so. I am sooo sick right now, didn't get off the couch all weekend, tried to work today then came home early. Just got up and thought I would sit and read. I feel like yuck, but wanted to respond.
You are so informative, I love reading your post.
