How long were you off work?
Hi, I had my surgery on a Friday (RNY-Lap). I took off one week, went back the next Monday. It was hard, but I did it. I took a full nap on my lunch. I could have stayed off longer and it would have been easier, but it you have to go back you can do it. Good Luck, Congrats on your date.

Greetings! First of all congrasts on the surgery.
I was off two weeks (over spring break) and went back to work the following Monday. I was a bit sore...and we have stairs at my school so that hurt abit, but I just went slowly. I was ok, work 5 hours and then home. I work with kids so might be a bit more physical than yours. My doc said it would be fine to go back after two weeks lap rny.
good luck it is an amazing journey.

My surgeon recommends 4-6 weeks. I am taking 4 because I think I will be ready by then physically & mentally, and have my eating & vitamin regimen schedule firmly in place. I am nearing the end of week 2 since surgery which luckily was textbook, no complications other than a small, unexpected hernia repair. Every day gets better, I am feeling great upon waking. I just tire out more easily than I thought I would and I usually find myself falling asleep around noon for a short 45 min to 1 hr nap. Then I'm feeling good again till early evening and the sleepies come over me again but I usually stay awake until about 9:00 and then go to bed. I do sleep soundly now and all night though. That is a big thing for me as I used to wake 2-3 times every night before surgery. It's amazing how refreshed you feel after a true, solid night's sleep. Overall, my recommendation is if you can afford to be off, take advantage of it. This is after all major surgery even if you have it done laparoscopically. I read your profile. You have a 2 yr. old. That throws an additional load on you irregardless of how much help you get from spouse or others. It's not all just physical stress from surgery, it's mental stress too adapting to the dramatic changes in eating and drinking. Already I have experience a little bit of the blues and cry easily at sappy movies, etc. I think it's the release of hormones stored in my fat. But I don't regret my surgery. Not yet anyways. LOL. Good luck and God bless -- Pat
Hi there, what a coincidence, I also work for a Health Dept in Illinois. I will be having my surgery probably the last week in July. I only took off 2 weeks I am really strapped for time to take off, we have had other family problems that I've had to miss work for plus all of the appointments for the testing.. I've used alot of time that I had accumulated. I'm kind of like you I have a desk job, but do get up and down when I print coupons and other things.
So 2 weeks will have to do for me.

I hope not to be off to long.. I am getting very excited.. July 8th couldn't come no sooner.. I am so ready to be thin or at least thinner... I hope all goes well for you. The only part that I am having a problem with is leaving my children... 2 boy's 2 and 14. Its not as bad about the 14 but the 2 year old is a mommies boy.........
