what kind of mints or gums we can have? I am almost one week post op and am not hungry at all but would kill for just a peppermint or something. I bought some sugar free hard candys but ready horror stories about sugar alchahol and bypass..
I seriously could eat a hundred of my calcium chews that taste like caramel just cause it isn't bad..
Someone tell me there is something out there we can have, Please lol!!
Thanks girls!

Hey Jade, yep watch that sugar free stuff ...I got so sick on that stuff once.  Bad Bad stomach cramps..called Dr. Tom he told me to take some gasX..I was so upset with him thinking he didn't believe I was dying and had something seriously wrong wih me.  Finally I thought I would do anything if it helped..drove to the store in so much pain I could barely stand it..ate two gas X an be dang if the pain didn't subside finally...guess the man knew what he was talking about..LOL..not sure I ever questioned him again.   WEll ok maybe I do challenge him once in awhile ..if I didn't he would think I didn't like him anymore..

as for gum..as a rule with bypass patients it's pretty much a no no..hang in there..do what your instructions tell you until you see him again.  remember you just had major surgery. Some pain, as well as cravings may hit, but your pouch is very tender so treat it tenderly.  I was once told that a new pouch is like a new born babies stomach..we need to take it slowly just like your baby...in steps at getting back to eating.  You will do just fine, I promise!

as for the pain as was explained in the other thread.  they are correct..the left side is where the largest instruments are placed,  along with the docs fingers..so yea, it does hurt more than the other areas, and if I remember correctly from being in surgery with him it's the only hole with an inside stitch..you also had your on Q pain pump in that incision.it is full of pain meds that slowly releases, that keeps the area numb..for a few days then ouchkers..you start feeling it.
now just so you know...I had open surgery, with no such thing as a pain pump...and NO
catheter!!!!!!  oh my how things have come a long way since my surgery..Dr. Sonnanstine didn't do mine ..wish he had.  It hurt like he dickens..I remember thinking, what have I done and being very sorry for awhile...but I tell you I would do it again..and again and again , if I had too.
you are doing great..keep up the good work, walk, sip and don't forget the protein..chill it till almost frozen, if you have to hold your nose to drink it..look at it as medicine..you need it for your health!!
when I had my plastic surgery disaster..I had to drink 4 protein shakes a day, yep thought I was going to die, but I wanted off my wound vac bad enough after 3 months...I did it, ...gagged it all the way down!!
I have just started back on my shakes again for breakfast..don't say I like em..but they keep me compliant when I go off track....
take care of you!!

I was PMing Brenda earlier and told her about your post.  I was going to tell you to ask her but I see she already replied.  I was told not to chew gum too.

sorry for keeping you up so late Brenda.

I didn't have the RNY, I had the band and there may be a few other people posting who may remember my big league chew gum incident from back in April. Just heed my warning gum is not worth it. I got it stuck and  puked, and  cramped and was in more pain then after I actually had my surgery.

Hey guys...what about some kind of mints from a natural food store? No alcohols that way? I cannot have the sf mints due to the gas probs...Certs are deadly to me!  (and to those around me)     Found out the hard way when I was about 10 yrs old...lol

I chew Extra sugar free just Don't swallow  or you'll be in BIG trouble. If you do swallow you just might face the rath of Dr. Tom for he does not want you chewing gun.
