HOW LONG DOES IT USUALLY TAKE AFTER YOU HAVE YOUR INSURANCE APPROVAL, ALONG WITH ALL THE STUFF THEY REQUIRE?

Renea,
I got my insurance approval 2/13 but my surgery was not until 4/29.  But you know there were cir****tances with Dr. S. moving to G-town in there so that was a big part of my delay.  Usually from what I understand if everything else is done (all medical appts, psych, etc) it should only be 2-3 weeks after.  But after my insurance was approved is when I had to do the upper GI, cardiac clearance, and something else I can't remember and that only took a couple of weeks to get those appointments done.  Good Luck Donna

HOPEFULLY IT WONT BE THAT LONG.  HOW LONG WERE YOU IN THE HOSPITAL?  DID YOU HAVE ALOT OF PROBLEMS?  DO YOU WORK AND IF SO HOW LONG WILL YOU BE OFF?

Renea.
I do work and I will be off 3-4 weeks.  But I really think I can go back the 4th because right now I feel good enough.  I am actually going to be doing some work from home for the next 2 weeks, fortunately I have a job that I can do that with a company supplied laptop.  I didn't have alot of problems but if you had asked me last week I may not have been so enthusiastic about it.  But the last 3 days I have actually felt more like myself and the soreness is going away and I am doing more.  I had surgery on 4/29 Wed. and I came home that Sat.   You will do well and you will absolutely love Georgetown, Dr. Sonnanstine, and the staff.  They are so caring and encouraging.  It was the best.  Donna

My husband and I both had surgery about four months apart he had such an easy time with it. He had surgery on Wednesday and a week and one day later he played 18 holes of golf. I on the other hand not so lucky I actually recovered very well but the week I went back to work(I worked  residential adolescent drug and alcohol rehab)the kids I worked with were passing a bad vommiting and diahrea bug around and lucky me I caught it so I actually wasn't in very much pain from the procedure itself I was in pain from all the wretching I did puking that was torture. Dr. S. and his team are so great about making sure you are comfortable during your recovery.

I had a weird experience....I sent in and got approved within 3 days.  I got the call on a friday and 3 weeks later I was having surgery.  I had done ALL my tests before submission as it would help with my insurance.
I was lap RNY and I missed only two weeks (but actually scheduled it over spring break) and was a bit sore the first few days. Since I only work 8-1 it was not bad at all. I did rest the first two days after work.  I had not taken any pain meds for work though.

Good luck
it is an amazing journey.

I work for the local health dept.  so I don't do alot of labor work.  I think if all goes well then I don't see why I can't go back early.

I work 14 to 16hr shifts at the hospital, and one of my friends also had the RNY 1 year ..the problem with us wasn't so much sore as tired. I know everyone is different.  She had 8 hour shifts and regreted not asking for 5 or 6 hour the first week she came back. I cut mine back  (took 10day off) to working 8hr instead of 16.  I was tired but OK.
