Pain in my left side, ? about sleeping...
Hey girls. I am doing great recovering from my surgery but this pain in my left side, omg it is miserable when I move certain ways! Is this normal? I have 4 incission sites that are super tiny but the one on my left side almost makes my stomach look werid cause it is sunken in underneath it.
I know I am just 4 days post op and this will wear off soon, but does anyone have any tips on how to keep it from hurting so bad? If I move a lot it isn't as bad, but I guess it will all be ok in time..
Also, I am worried about sleeping, isn't that weird.. I normally sleep on my left side, which is impossible to do now, but am I gonna tear anything apart or mess anything up if I try to sleep on my other side? I am afraid I am gonna stretch something lose or something..
Any suggestions for protein. I just can't stomach the 70 grams a day no matter what I try. I feel so full that I can barely even take all of my vitamins.. Someone tell me this is gonna get easier or that I will adjust soon lol..
I do miss food and would love to be going out for a big mothers day dinner tonight but once I start seeing results I think I will be ok..
Ok enough from me. Hope you are all having a awesome Mothers Day!
Look forward to hearing from everyone :)

The pain you speak of is normal. Thats where they have to cut through muscle to get to your stomache. I too slept on my left side and it took about 2 months to be able to even lay on my tummy and sleep. But it will get better. It took me a month to get over the pain from the left side. And nothing seemed to help my pain.
But we are all different when it comes to the way we heal.

Hi Jade
Most of the work the doc does is on your left side...so yes you are normal. OH, I had a serious indentation where he worked on me. Since I weighed close to 300 pounds it was a deep dimple, but it is gone now- at 6 weeks. Honestly I forgot to notice when it left. I had the same left side pain for about 2 1/2 weeks. But, I did not need pain meds the whole time. The biggest stressor for the pain (or trigger) was the stairs. If you can do them less it will be easier that is what the nurse told me.
I sleep on my left side and I , LIKE HOLLI, could not sleep on my side awhile for me until 4 weeks out. I used a granny back cushion upside down like a ramp and laid on that to sleep.
My doc told me not to stress too much about getting the 60-80 in right now, and I am 6 weeks out. His nurse told me keep inching up and trying hard and it will get easier. I am still trying hard, but it is slow going for me. NOT the weight...I could not have imagined 50 pounds in 6 weeks, but the food and protein.
good luck and feel free to pm me if you have any questions for me.

Jade,
so glad everything went well for you. I too had the pain and swelling and some drainage on my left side. I got scared and called Dr. S. nurse Steve. He told me that is where the largest implements went and and where the most work was done through and it was the roughest. That the pain could last in some fashion up to a month. I am happy to report that my left side is not nearly as sore anymore and I am up doing laundry, dishes, I even helped mow the lawn yesterday (course it was a riding mower) hehe but I did it. I am still no where near getting in the protein and I like you thought I would never get all the vitamins in etc. But honestly I can say I have felt more like my old self the last 3 days. But you do need to walk walk walk that really helps the soreness go away. I also sleep on my left side and my stomach but right now I am still sleeping on my back and right side on the couch as my bed is still a little too hard for me. It will get easier. But if you had asked me last week I would have been unsure of my answer. I did not feel very good the first week it was a little rough on me. I go back for my 2 week with Dr. S. Friday and I am interested in what he has to say. You will get through it even though it may seem like you won't for the first week or so. It has gotten alot better for me going into my 2nd week. Hugs... Donna

hi,
I am a belly sleeper, and the first month about got me, lol, but I did find sleeping in a recliner was way better than a bed, you may want to try it, it was a lifesaver for me!!
also you can get these little protein shots at walmarts, they are like 1.97 each, only like 3 oz, and 26 grams of protein, you may want to try them just to get your protein in, don't taste that good, but works great!! Lisa

Jade that is normal pain on the left side whether you are RNY or lapband, that is where they put the larger scope and the stapler when stapling the stomach etc. Try a heating pad and try and not lay on the left side as your weight shifts to the side you are sleeping on and will probably cause more pain. I basically slept in the lazy boy for a week post op to keep from the pain of possibly rolling over on the left side .
Hope you feel better soon.
Vicki

God love you. Yes it does get easier.
I am pretty sure that left side pain is extremely normal across the board. I alleviated it by propping my slef up and sleeping on the couch and every day and night it got easier.
I to and also my husband had an awful time with the protein. So I definitely feel your pain.
I think another problem that I have heard a lot of people say they have is being very emotional for a week or two afterwards Brenda Gold and my mom(she's a retired nurse) told me that unfortunately the stuff they put you under with screw with your emotions a little and so being weepy(that was my problem saw a butterfly land on a flower cried like a baby)is a side effect.
I assure you once that weight is melting off you all of this will be a distant memory.
