Hey everyone. I am having my RNY done tomorrow morning, and I am starting to get really nervous. Does anyone have any last minute advice? What should I pack for the hospital stay besides the normal stuff..
I am so excited yet so very scared. I know Dr. Sonnanstine will take care of me and I can't wait to start my new life.
Thanks in advance for any last minute bits of advice and all the prayers I can get!!
I will update when I get home!

Chapstick and a pillow.  The pillow will be very helpful to hold over your stomach on the ride home too to help cushion the bumps!!!

I also took some of my own broth (at least I knew I'd have something that would taste good in case I didn't like theirs).

Also took a pair of flip-flops for the shower and list of why I was having this surgery.................to remind myself that the discomfort is worth it!!!

Best of luck to you.

Good Luck Jade-we were all in your shoes at one time..nervous and scared of the unknown..(surgery)  I remember laying there thinking how weird it was going into surgery when I wasn't sick.  It was the best decision I ever made.  Never been sorry.  Only thing I would do different is Dr. Sonnnanstine would be my surgeon.  He will be there for you!

Start walking as soon as possible and do it often.  Sip sip sip sip on water.  Take some chapstick with you for the day you have surgery especially and the day after because your lips will be very dry.  Don't be afarid its not as bad as you may think.  The nurses on the bariatric unit are amazing.  They will bend over backward to help you and encourage you.  Dr. S. is going to take excellent care of you and they are all very good with pain management.  They kept asking me if I needed pain meds.  and I kept saying no mainly because I felt it was more sore than anything but don't be afraid to ask for pain meds anytime you need them.    You will do fine.  Keep us all posted.

Thank you all soooo much! I am kind of nervous but just went and talked to my family dr and I feel much better now. Luckily I live in Georgetown and will be able to have my dr come make rounds, and I feel a thousand times better knowing he will be seeing me instead of a dr. I don't know.
I don't know if it has really hit me yet, but I hope it does soon.
Thank you all again for all of your kind words and the support on this board is amazing! I can't wait to join you all on the losers bench.
I will update as soon as I make it home! I can do this, right? lol
Hugs~

Yes, you CAN do this!  If I did it at my extreme weight (428) you can do it.  It has already changed my life and I still have a long way to go.  We'll be thinking of you and saying a prayer for your speedy recovery.  I know you're gonna be glad you took this step.

Hugs,
Cindy
