Hello all,
My name is Brenda, I am 53 yrs. old and proud of it. I am healthier and happier than I ever was at 30 and obese. I had RNY bypass surgery June of 2003 and have los165 lbs ..
I am married to Mike, a retired police investigator (will be 30 yrs in July). I spent 20 yrs as a paralegal, after some issues with agoraphobia I did most all my legal research from home. When I decided to have bariatric surgery I was very ill. Diabetes out of control. Kidney problems ( I lost my right kidney) and depression. After surgery I decided to do something else in my life totally different from what I was familiar with. I met Dr. Sonnanstine who took me under his wing and trained me as a patient advocate. I have been very involved in the bariatric community as well as the industry for nearly 5 yrs, putting together events with Obesity help, as well as hospitals. I love working wth people so much that when offered the job in the Breast Cancer Center working with several surgeons...I jumped at the chance.
I have two children Michael- A Coast Guard Lt. Commander..he is the pilot for the Admiral of the Coast Guard and the Secretary of Homeland Security. He is stationed out of Ronald Reagan Airport and lives in Virginia. His wife Maribel, daughter Ava Gabriel (17 months) and twin daughters will be delivered C-Section June 5th.
My daughter Noel and her husband Rob, both police officers, have my grandson Ian MIchael..fortunately for me they live nearby..my grandson and the love of my life..Ian was born Feb 1st. of last year..
I live on a small farm in Clermont Co . Ohio where we have 2 cats, 2 horses and a family of skunks who visit us frequently..

P.S. I forgot to add. My husband has the realize band. Will be one year in June, he has lost somewhere around 80 lbs and still going, he loves his band!!

My name is Nancy but i go by Lisa,i will be 46 on Monday April 27th.
At this time i do not work.
I am married to my best friend Neil for 17.5 years he is active duty in the army national guard and is stationed 45 minutes from home,his civilian job is a poker dealer at argosy casino.
I have 3 sons Joey is 25 ,Andy is 16 and Lucas(the baby) is 15.
We live in Aurora Indiana and have 2 dogs and i cat our doberman is having puppies want one.lol
I am now at 289 pounds(still severly obese)but i have not felt this good in 15 years.
I have always been the fat girl and didnt realize i how big i had gotten til i couldnt breathe and walk.I had my surgery on 2-18-08 in st.luke with Dr.Sonnastine and i lost alot of weight and Dr,Sonnastine was wonderful i feel like he is a true friend not just the surgeon and i set and reflect on where i would be today if not for him.In 2-26-09 i had a hysterectomy and panni removal of 30 pounds with dr.Pavelka and life is so awesome i feel great so good i went from 526 to 289 and i can do things that surprise me i weighed 345 when i got married so my hubby has a new thinner happier wife and my kids have a mom.

I am 5 months out and have lost over 50 pounds and even thought the weight loss has slowed dramatically down, I find new and improved things about me every day. Through this board I met a woman that I who lives in another region of KY and found we work for the same company (and actually ran into each other several times throughout the years). I am a registered nurse and I work for a health insurance company and I can help out with those questions if need be.
I have 3 kids; two are older adults and out of town and one contrite 13 y/o still living at home. My older daughter just gave me my 1st grandchild and it is killing me that she is 1300 miles away. I have 2 dogs and 2 rats (pet domestic rats; not street rats) and absolutely LOVE working my garden and cycling. I have always been very very physically active and I don't think many every viewed me as "fat" because of my physical activity....I guess as long as I could keep my activity level up I wasn't considered fat...however my weight greatly interfered with my activity and my self-esteem. I actually had one of my evaluation MDs tell me "you are not fat enough to have surgery and I will not do anything to help you meet the requirements". I told him that was between me and my insurance company; not him and to please just give me the sleep eval. LOL.
I live in NKY just south of Cincinnati and my sister is interested in the band now that she has seen my success and her health is starting to pay the price for her weight. I don't post on here as much lately because I am also in school but I do lurk often.

Hi, My name is Jonda. Originally born in Romania, my parents moved us here when I was 10 yrs. old. I am married with two sons. I was deaf from birth but do read lips and of course ASL. I had lapband surgery March of 08 and have lost 97 lbs -my goal.
I know I need a new picture!
My husband Ron, is a manager for one of the HIlton Hotels. We will be moving to Lexington soon, and looking forward to the move and opportunity for him as General Manager of a hotel in that area..
I will be following up with Dr. Sonnanstine and my husband is thinking (hasn't decided) about having the band as well.

Hi All,
My name is Donna and I am a newbie. I will be having my surgery Wed. 4/29 with Dr. Sonnanstine. I work in purchasing for a world wide printing company. I am married and have one son who is now 22. WOW! I'm feeling old now.....NOT! I am 48. We have 2 other babies a minpin named Bosch and a mix breed named Abby. My husband (been together 24 years)is retired army and cop. Right now he works in security ( for homeland) in federal building and fed. court house. We had our house built in Monroe 5 years ago....Love it! I call it my little Mayberry! I absolutely love working out in my yard but it is so hard anymore. I get out of breath right away. I have let so many things slide because of my weight and how uncomfortable it has made me. I can not wait to feel better and do the things I use to enjoy so much....basically anything outdoors. And I really want to thank everyone, especially Brenda for helping me by answering questions and just listening. Brenda, you have been an amazing help and comfort to me. My name is Johanna, but most everyone calls me JoJo. I just turned 28 today (April 26). Married to Kevin aka Doc for 8 1/2 yrs. We have one daughter, Haley, who is 5 1/2. I'm currently unemployed, but a full time college student majoring in Criminal Justice. We live in Russell Springs. I went to a seminar on April 17th at Dr. S's. They should be calling me this week to set up an appointment. I currently weigh 302 lbs and hope to get down to around 175. I'm 5'6" and carry my weight pretty, plus I'm medium to large built so I don't want to get too small lol. I've already had my PCP do all my blood work and just Friday they called with the results of my tests and I'm now on Zocor (after I finish the Prevpac when finals are over in case it makes me sick), so I think I made the decision at the right time. I'm hoping the journey to surgery goes quickly.
