OK...so apparently there is a slight controversy over the board and cliques. Here is how I see it.....We start out this journey and usually watch and read(otherwise known as lurkdom)  Then we finally work our way into posting a question occasionally. Then...before you know it, you are posting all the time, reading all the time, etc....Its hard not to. You may not always agree or disagree with what is posted which is fine...we all have opinions and no one is right or wrong...that's why they are called opinions. We all try to offer advice from our experiences but let's face it...the medical questions need to be directed to your Dr. That's why you pay him the big bucks.   We do not criticize spelling, grammar, etc....we support each other and that is the main purpose of this forum is it not?
I love this board and have gotten to know alot of people on here outside of the net. Best thing that could have happened to me!  I knew no one when I attended my first one...not even had posted much at that time. I am so so thankful that Becka and I think Dawn (?) organized this! I needed alot of help in the worst way! I had many complications and frustrations with my band and wanted to just be done. They inspired and motivated me to get off my butt and get pro active with the band and look at how it has paid off! I cried when Becka bungee jumped that day! I wanted to feel like she did! I wanted to reach a goal like the goal that she had met.  Well...I am now 3 pounds from my first goal of being under 300 pounds!  23 pounds from my 100 pound lost mark! I am so so thankful for this board and only hope that I been able to help one person.  Alot of people just read and that is fine. Sometimes we see new faces post....yeah...welcome newbies! But for us oldbies...if we don't post...who will? I still love to see some of the people who were posting at the beginning when I got on here! That was 2 years ago! Wow..time has flown!
I would love to see new faces , so to speak, on here...sharing and enjoying this journey with us. So if you ever thought of posting...jump in here..the water is great!  If you want to attend a meeting...let one of us know...we will meet ya outside if you like and walk in with you and introduce you around! We were all new once too and know it is a little overwhelming. But please don't let that hold ya back....we would love to meet ya!

Ditto what LeeAnn said (but I think she spelled a few words wrong)!   I know I haven't been on here as much as I should or could lately but I am soooooo bogged down in school.  This board and these people really helped me through some tough times and I am sure they will again!

I will just add my two cents...
I am not a new poster, but definately a newbie as far as my surgery.  Lee Ann, and all others have made me welcome!  I am different than many of themas they have the lap band. I had the rny, but that has never deterred the whole active KY board from being supporitive.  As a matter of fact one of the first people to contact me was Sandi and she is a bandster too.  I have great difficulty getting to meetings as I have just learned to drive and my DH needs the car for he and our son ....or something else comes up....which is just the case tonight: my son has an academic recognition ceremony at his school at 630 and I will not miss anything academic or related to school.
One of the very nicest things about this place in the virutal world  is many, many of the people here DO want to know you truely in person. People I have never met (because of my not getting to meetings) have invited me to join them. I feel very welcomed and with out the kindness of the pros this would be a cold and sterile environment.

Thank you to the newbies and the pros as I like to call them....

what Lee Ann said - this ain't no clique - we want everyone to post!

btw - love you Lee Ann - congrats on being so close to such awesome goals, you can do it!!!!

I owed it to myself to research the duodenal switch before consenting to any other weight loss surgery and so do you.  Check out DSFacts.com and DuodenalSwitch.com for more information.  Remember think twice, cut once, revisions are risky and revision surgeons are rare.

To all who post and just read:

Clique was not the exact word I was looking for at the time I was trying to convey the message that there are some people who try and post and be helpful and give all the advice they can give (it just so happens that most of you are basically centrally located roughly in the Lexington/Louisville are) on almost a daily basis.
The info is very useful sometimes and then sometimes  not so much. I appreciate the postings(it's just that there have been some newbies who have felt very intimidated as one woman put it and after reading  a few posting decided to seek help elsewhere. There was also a woman from Cincinnati who was planning on moving to Louisville who felt  like every time she got on here to ask a question or congratulate someone that it took her an hour our longer to get past all of this accountability stuff, she finally said if you can't be accountable to yourself why do you think people who are posting on here honestly care whether you ate a bagel with turkey bacon or not. I think it has just become discouraging to others. I was wondering if Obesityhelp might come up with a link to help people with their accountability and let the people who have pressing questions and news post on a different link.

I am personally proud of even the tiniest success anyone has but I guess as my friend Stephanie puts it if I have to read one more time what so an so ate for breakfast, lunch and dinner I think I'll puke.
I am not trying to start a war of words but I am begining to voice the opinions of people who are weight struggling along  with me that no longer feel like this site is a question and answer site  and support site but more like a social networking site like FACEBOOK or MY SPACE

I hate to disagree, but I can disagree without being disagreeable and I think you have been that too!  :-)  I actually don't post what I eat, but sometimes I am curious about what others are eating and I find that informative.  Not that everyone is eating what they SHOULD be eating sometimes, but at least they're being honest.

One thing that has been a little boring since my RNY  in December is deciding what to eat.  It gets old and any new idea out there sparks my interest in trying new things.

If ya don't want to read the accountability (which I only read occasionally) then just fast forward through those and don't click on them.  Everyone has different likes and dislikes - we can all learn tolerance and appreciate that we have different needs at different times.

I like reading about the exercise challenges too - I haven't been exercising like I should (yet) and it encourages me to become more active.  Who knows, maybe one day I'll be posting the in the accountability and exercise threads too!

Peace out sisters!  :-)  Hugs to everyone, Cindy

I for one am from Salem Indiana...an hour North of Louisville. Leslie, Sandi, Holli, Katrina and others are from Southeast KY...Dawn, is from southern ky, Z is from southwest KY, Lachelle is from West Baden IN.( and hour and 1/2 northwest of Louisville), Amy, Racke, Lisa are from Cincy area. We are not all from the Louisville/Lexington area.I don't think that our accountability postings should detour anyone from posting. If you are gonna post ans ask...do it. We do the accountability for alot of reasons. Mine is to hold myself accountable and since I do not want to have to post what I cheated and ate...it detours me from eating it most times. This site is called OBESITYHELP.com...it is an open forum to discuss issues that affect and inform people with their weight loss, journey or problems.  If Stephanie does not like to read them...why is she? You have to click on the post to read it after all....just don't click on it.
We all have weight issues and that is what got us here to be quite frank. We have also ate from alot of these same emotions that we share and are trying our darnedest not to do it at that moment and that is why we post what we are going through! I, as a newbie, related to alot of this and realized after reading this stuff that people two or three years out are still struggling with these issues and the surgery was not a fix to all the problems that was associated with the weight.
If I had specific questions regarding surgery or something band related I went to the band board. If I want to just talk or compare more intimate health issues or a wow moment that people will understand is one for me...I come here. These people have seen my struggle and know if I hit that goal or size....it is a big thing for me.
But.....if someone loses a loved one, is undergoing another surgery or procedure, is getting married, having a baby or grand baby, loses a job, gets a job, or just needs a shoulder to cry on or a big high five.....you can bet your ass I want to be one of the ones to give it to them because I care about them. If I see a post I do not want to read...I don't. Someone on here that I don't like...pass it by. you have a choice on here...use it. If you are a newbie...please ask your questions. You are no less important than anyone else. No one on here is better than anyone else....there are just different personalities. ano one hads the right or wrong answers...just different experiences to share and advice to give on what they would do. This board changes on a daily basis...just like life.....I am just glad I am a part of it through it all.
As for having seperate links for sifferent postings...they already have quite a selections.  This board is for everyone...we are all adults. If you don't want to ready the accountability...don't. If you don't want to read a certain topic don't. You can make your choices....BTW...why would someone let the board influence their moving to Louisville? There are plenty of boards to pick from...perhaps one of the others would be more to your likng....We are here to stay and continue to support everyone who wants to be or needs to be!
