13 days away, getting nervous!!
Hey everyone! Well my surgery (rny) is in 13 days, and I am starting to get nervous, anxious, excited, scared, and all of that good stuff..
I am so anxious for the results, but since I got my owners manual, all I keep reading about are death and deadly blood clots.. I know that this seldom happens, but I have 3 kids under the age of 4 that need there mommy, yet on the other hand they need a happy, healthy mommy as well..
I can't wait to get this done, I just wish I could stop reading about all of this death crap! It freaks me out..
Anyway besides all of that, I am soooo ready to be a loser, and LOVE Dr. Sonnanstine! He is AMAZING!!
All of my bloodwork and ekgs, and xrays and ultrasounds and all of that "couldn't have looked any better" according to my internal med. dr, so I really am starting out super healthy considering I suppose.
I know I am rambling, but does anyone have any advice for me? What should I take that they forget to tell you about to the hospital, how much do most people lose the first month, etc...
This board is awesome, and I will be posting lots more as I progress in this journey!
Thanks sooo much!
But we do what we do when we finally feel right about it. I felt like the odds were on my side and if anything went wrong at least my girls were adults and could make it without me (even though they wouldn't want to and I wouldn't want them to). It's a hard decision, but for me it was the right decision and I haven't regretted it one minute, even during the first several weeks when I had some pain. The pain is minor and short term and well worth it. I've lost 100 lbs since Dec 19,2008 and I can hardly believe the life changes it has made.
I wish you the best - keep posting and asking questions. Did you get the vena cava filter inserted yet? That is something I had done to help prevent deadly blood clots from traveling to vital organs. I never had a blood clot at all - Dr. Shina required me to take daily shots of blood thinner for the first 10 days after leaving the hospital. The shots were easy and painless and I had no problems with blood clots and I weighed 428 and am 54 years old. Your chances should be even better than mine.
If you have any other questions just ask - I'll try to help you with them! (Oh - I lost 53 lbs the first month - way too much, but I believe a lot of it was fluids - most people don't lose nearly that much - Dr. Shina wasn't happy with that much weight loss and he put me on 6 meals a day for a little while - a week later I had only lost 2 more lbs and it's been more reasonable ever since, but still a good weight loss rate. The heavier you are to begin with the faster it comes off initially - usually. Also it depends on your exercise and age, etc. A general average for women with RNY is 1/2 lb a day and for men about 1 lb a day. It doesn't seem to come off on a daily basis though - it stabilizes and stays the same and then a week or two later a lot of weight comes off quickly - a series of plateaus and then weight loss. It may be different for each person, but this is how it has worked for me.
It si normal to be scared ,beleive me i was i tryed so many times to talk my self out of it as i was on the table being prepped for surgery i wanted to get up and run(at my size it was impossible to run).
But i was in a situation where if i didnt have the surgery i was gonna die anyway .
I have not regretted this surgery i have lost over 230 pounds since 2/18/08 (30 pounds from excess skin removal) and i did have complications but not from the surgery.
I will tell you this Dr.Sonnanstine di my surgery also and you are in the best hands he is the greatest and he will be beside you the whole way.
