Question about plastics & Tricare Prime

We recently moved here to Ky and I'm thinking about finally getting some of this excess skin removed. My question is how much will Tricare pay for. I have an appt. to talk to my PCP on May 8th but I figured I'd get a little heads up from you guys first. I had my surgery in 2006 and I'm really, really tired of all this extra skin. I feel like I'm in limbo~~~I'm halfway to where I want to be! Thanks so much for any tips..

Thanks in advance,
Jamie

Jamie welcome to the KY board but as far as your question you might go to the plastics forum and ask your question I am sure someone might be able to assist you better there

Thank you Vicki for the Welcome! I posted my question there but didn't get any responses so I thought I might have better luck finding some military ppl here.

Thanks again

Jaimie,

Welcome to Ky. You should find some pretty good knowledge on here. There is a group of about 6 or so post op women who basically rule this roost(I'm  not one of them) but so far they seem relatively helpful. It also sometimes helps to check out the Ohio and Indiana forums there aren't as many people who are cliquish and will welcome you  and your questions pertty openly. Good luck with whoever you spaek with most people on the losers bench won't steer you wrong sometimes it's just hard to get your opinion noticed on the Ky forum.

Wow, I didn't realize I was part of a clique!  Not too flattering and not really all that accurate in my opinion.  I'm sure you didn't intend to insult though.

Yes, there are several of us that have banded together and have taken a step further becoming real life friends rather than just be online buddies.  Most of us are from the Norton's bariatric Group but there are a few others throughout the state.  My interpretation of a clique is a group that excludes others and we have never done that.

There's a dinner invite for this Saturday posted on the board right now by Vicki for EVERYONE

We have a challenge starting this coming Monday that is open to EVERYONE.

I have had 2 parties for people of this board in my very own home and the invite has always been open to EVERYONE regardless of surgeon or WLS type.  The last party had 14 people from all over the state including three Dr. S. people.

That doesn't sound so cliquish to me...

When someone new comes along it naturally takes a while for people to warm up to one another.  I am sorry you apparently did not feel welcomed.  Perhaps those of us who have been around for a while need to pay closer attention to new people on this board but at some point the other person needs to participate in the group to become a part of the active group.

I really didn't mean to open a can of worms here but the whole "clique" thing just didn't sit too well with me.

Becka,

I apologize clique wasn't exactly the word I was looking for. It just sometimes seems like new people aren't as welcomed. I personally have had MOSTLY positive replies. It's just that there have been newbies who have privately e-mailed me ansd stated THAT THEY ARE LOOKING FOR OTHER FORUMS TO JOIN BECAUSE IT (SORRY I CAN'T GET MY CAPS LOCK OFF) FELT CLIQUISH TO THEM AND ALSO THERE HAVE BEEN PATIENTS FROM UP IN NORHTERN KY THAT FELT LIKE THERE HAD BEEN A LOT OF BAD MOUTHING TOWARDS DR.S .
I MYSELF HAVE REALLY APPRECIATED EVERYTHING THAT YOU AND YOUR COMBINED GROUP OF FRIENDS HAVE SHARED WITH ME. IT'S JUST THAT I HAVE BEEN TO A FEW PUBLIC SUPPORT GROUPS UP HERE AND THEY UNFORTUNATELY FEEL LIKE THERE IS NO ROOM FOR NEW COMERS ON THIS SITE.
I JUST AM EXTREMELY PROUD AND INSPIRED BY ALL OF THE SUCCESS EVERYONE HAS AND EVERYDAY THAT I READ EVERYONE'S BLOG IT MAKES ME FEEL BETTER I WAS JUST RELAYING SOME OF THE THINGS THAT OTHER NEWBIES HAVE STATED

I too am mystified by the whole "Dr. S people -vs- everyone else" phenomenon on this board!  It was going on when I joined the board almost a year and a half ago so it even pre-dates me.  I would routinely get slammed by one or two Dr. S patients when I posted on the accountability thread what my daily food intake was with comments like "how in the world do you lose weight???   MY doctor tells me to do this ......(fill in the blank)........."  My typical response was to point out that there are several approaches to diets and no one way was the only way.

There have been a couple spats though (not any by me that I can remember) that have gotten pretty interesting.

Other than Sonja, Amy and Lisa from the Dr. S tribe, the others all tend to act like we don't exist....it's kinda funny....they ignore us....we ignore them....i really do wi**** would stop but how?

Thanks for the honest response.  like I said I didn't mean to open a can of worms it was just something I felt I needed to respond to.  Hopefully it wasn't in an offensive manner.

JUST KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK. I TRY TO TAKE ALL THE IDEAS FROM EVERYONE'S DAILYACCOUNTABILITY AND MODIFY THEM TO MY USE. I JUST DON'T THINK PEOPLE TAKE INTO THE FACT THAT OUR BODIES TYpES ARE SO DIFFERENT BESIDES THE COMMON FACTOR THAT WE ARE OVER WEIGHT  FOR EXAMPLE MY HUSBAD HAS TO HAVE ABOUT 3X'S THE PROTEIN I NEED BUT MY MOTHER IN LAW ONLY HAS  TO HAVE  alittle bit less than that and out of the 3 of us I need the least so I think all of our experiences are different but worth sharing

Hi Jamie,

Welcome to the Kentucky Board!   I wish I could answer your questions but  I'm just now beginning my Plastics research too.  I have the name of a recommended Louisville surgeon I could pass onto you but I have no firsthand knowledge of him myself.  My sister has Tricare but i'm not sure if it's prime or not.  i can ask her if it's difficult to have plastics approved next time I see her (she has had RNY almost 2 years ago).

This board moves a little slow somtimes so don't get too discouraged if it takes a day or two to get a response.  We are a friendly group here, just jump right in!

What part of the state are you in??

I want to thank you all for your great advice. I've been researching and it's looking like Tricare will pay for TT and Breast Aug. only. I can live with that. I would really love to have a thigh lift and my bat wings removed~~> my goodness I could take flight with these suckers! I've been talking with my husband to see if maybe we could swing the last two surgeries out of pocket. I was thinking of looking in the Nashville area for a surgeon. I've seen several different prices quoted for thigh lift and arms. Maybe I'll swing back over to the plastics board and see what they've had done out of pocket. I'll be so glad to have this big hanging stomach removed..ick! I can wear 14's now but I still wear big shirts to cover my lower tummy bulge and my hanging arms. They just don't make cute summer wear to hide stuff like that.

Thanks again guys and I'm glad to be back on the board,
Jamie

Ps I had my surgery done in Hawaii by Dr. Balfour and he was excellent in my humble opinion.
