I'm Depressed.

I am so down tonight. This weight gain has really got me down. I can feel it and see it now. I know a lot of you won't be able to relate .. It's heartbreaking. You know it is one thing to lose weight on your own, and put some back on..but gaining weight AFTER weight loss surgery is like a kick in the face.

I am at the point I don't know what to do anymore.
Thanks for allowing me to vent!

I absolutely know what you are going through at the begining of March I was down to a 16 now that it is the middle of April I am back to an 18 and the stomach is coming back.
I am sick of myself. I should no better but I have had the self control of a 5 year old the last month. We are moving(nerves, hectic schedule)easter and my husband's b-day is Sunday.
My husband had the surgery 4 months after I did and he really could care less wether he loses or not and he has alwyas been my eating buddy so when he eats I feel compelled to eat its like a contagious yawn.

I can totally relate. I got down to a 16 (which was my goal). I hadn't seen a 16 in at least 10 years. Now I am in a 20, and it's a little tight. It's heartbreaking. I wanted to be a success at this.
It's hard when you have an "eating buddy." My ex and I were each others enablers before. I'd cook a meal and we'd have something sweet after, it was bad.

Yes Katrina...we do understand hun and can offer you lots of hugs! I put 5-6 lbs on over the last two weeks and I of course responded to my "failure" the same way I always do! I eat! Not good...but I did. I went to support group Tues and that has helped me alot to try to get back on the road. I just had to acknowledge my stumble and pick myself back up and start walking so to speak! This is a rough journey and just remember we all stumble! But we also have each other to pick us up and get us moving!

Thank you so much Lee Ann. Last year I realized I had put on some weight. The scale tells no lies lol but now I can visibly see it and just feel it. I guess maybe I have put on inches too because my gut is so much bigger. This journey feels more mental anymore. I never wanted to be rail thin, my goal was very much obtainable (180). I've always tried to be the strong one, and offer help/advice/support for others but I was just so down this morning. I had to get that out. Thanks for listening, and thanks for your reply.

Hang in there Katrina!
Gaining weight back is my biggest fear, and probably  most WLS patients fear.

If you need to talk or need anything, let me know.  Em me at [email protected]   that is the only em I have right now.   Sometimes it is good to stay busy.   You can visit me at my new place.   I am free Sat. day!!!!

Thanks Leslie.

You know my worst two fears were not feeling restriction anymore, and gaining weight.. And both of those have came true. You're on the right track, you have reached your goal and I feel like you will keep that weight off.

Ohh I forgot to ask before, where did you move to? Are you settled in?

I can relate because I had some big weight losses with weigh****chers years and years ago and thought I would NEVER gain it back, and yet with emotional eating I did gain back even MORE than I had lost every time!  When I decided to have my RNY I knew some people did regain weight after surgery, but most do not regain it all.  If you can stop and get back on the bandwagon now you will succeed - you still have the tools as they say.

I'm glad you're posting because you are reality - those of us who are new to this are probably expecting the weight to fall off easily, but we need to remember the tool only works when we use them.  I have been experimenting with some foods that I know I shouldn't be eating - like sweet things (my daughters are a bad influence).  A couple of months ago I wasn't even tempted, but now I'm starting to have desires for bad foods again.  I think I need to start going to Weigh****chers again just to keep my mind set - and take my daughters with me!

Maybe a weekly support group like WW would help?  Or keep posting on here and we'll try to encourage each other.  I'm kind of isolated and don't have much support except for this web site.  I still haven't started exercising yet  - Dr. Shina will probably get after me when I go to my appointment next week.  I need to vent more often too - maybe someone will get me motivated to exercise too!

Hugs,
Cindy

The Support Group and Exercise suggestions are excellent.   We don't have support groups in our area.
But maybe those of us who live close can start meeting once a week for some exercise  or hiking!?!?!?

Hi Cindy, thanks for your reply. I see people with their century cards and their signatures that say X amount of lbs gone, forever. Forever is a long time. That is sorta my pet peeve because you never know what tomorrow will hold. Looking back I don't regret having WLS at all. It has helped me keep weight off. I feel better, physically, and can get around easier. In theory, I do still have the tool. It makes it very difficult because I don't feel restriction anymore. I try to watch portions but end up hungry an hour later. I try to ignore it but most times it just doesn't work.

I am some reality. It does happen. Your weight will fall off easily for the first year even if you do nothing right. It's the long term that you have to strive for. We don't have any local support groups either, we sure need some though.  I've thought about weigh****chers but don't have the money to dedicate to that at the moment.

You're doing well Cindy. Keep up the work, add some light exercise and then keep adding on. Before you know it you may even enjoy working out.
