OK - so I attended my consult with Dr Husted today. I am planning on having the DS procedure. (omg Im so excited I can barely wait) Anywho.... I cannot stress enough about how often protein was mentioned - shakes in particular. So... that leads me to the question -

What is your favorite protein powder/shake? Does everyone here drink them like suggested? I have never been one for protein shakes or bars. I have no idea which ones are tastier than others. Just trying to get some ideas now so that I can be prepared..... I would hate to have to buy a ton of them before I find a few that I like... Any suggestions?? Thanks in advance!

I love Carnation instant breakfast (Kroger has their version and its just as good at half the cost) and I get the sugar free version. Snicker's Marathon bars or Twisted by Premiere (?) are really good. So are any of the South Beach and Kashi crunchy carmel choclate. I think thats the flavor...Sarah ate all of them so I am not really sure on that one!

champion pro stack banana scream, 1 scoop mixed with 4 oz milk

or

champion pro stack chocolate, 1 scoop mixed with 4 oz. water

shaken

not stirred

pour over ice

let it sit for a moment

then drink with a straw

yes, with a straw

the best, hands down, protein shake available

now I get most of my protein from food, but it is still nice to have these around on days when I just don't want to
I owed it to myself to research the duodenal switch before consenting to any other weight loss surgery and so do you.  Check out DSFacts.com and DuodenalSwitch.com for more information.  Remember think twice, cut once, revisions are risky and revision surgeons are rare.

I love the Matrix Cookies and Cream shake.  I mix it with 8 oz. of skim milk and 1 scoop of the shake.  Sometimes I through ice in a blender and make it more of a milk shake consistancy.  LOVE IT!  Just like an Oreo cookie.

The best thing that I did before surgery was to go to www.bariatriceating.com and order a sample pack.  It came with TONS of protein samples - powders, premade shakes, soups, etc.  It was the best.  I gave me the opportunity to sample different brands and different things that I thought I wouldn't like.  It's how I came across the cookies and cream shake.

Good luck with your surgery!  Keep us posted!!

14 months out, and for the last year, I only use one kind, still not tired of it, mixes really easy, eas superwhey protein, chocolate, I didn't care for the vanilla!!!  best place to get it is at sams club, 5 pound for less that 29.00 it last a long time, I use one scoop for 4 oz. milk, I was using a blender, but now i just put it in a shaker cup or a pint jar and shake it really well. I love the taste of it!!

I am not the one to ask.  LOL  I HATE shakes and haven't had one since 3 weeks post-op.  I am almost 14 months out now.
I still eat Protein Bars.
I used the Pure Protein ones from Wal-mart for a long time.  I have since switched over to South Beach Living ones as they taste a little better but have more sugar in them.

Check around online and call 800 #'s and ask for free samples.

www.revivalsoy.com  and www.kaysnaturals.com  (Kay's has some good proetin cereals and chips!)
And I am sure there are a million more out there.

Good luck to you!

Hi
I jhad my sutgery 2 1/2 weeks ago and just remember not to invest too much in one you like now.  I did and I am out a great deal of money as I cannot stand it in any way shape or form.   So, i think Kelly's idea of the sample pack is a great idea. I think my taste problem is ketosis and it may all revert back to fine, but I just wanted to warn you your tastes may change.

Good luck

I totally agree that my taste may change.. I was just hoping to get an early start on the extra protein. I sure dont want to spend a ton of cash on something I wont like... now or later...  lol..

Thank you all for the info!! It seems there are so many ways to actually get the protein! Shakes, powders, bars, actual food.... sigh... so many choices.
