I'm a looser who is at home!
Hi everyone!
Thank you all for your support and help thru RNY. Your tips on items to bring was a huge assest to me as of course, I started while there and was prepared. Aside from feeling like I wa**** or stabbed on my left side it hardly seems real. I know it intellectually, but it still seems kinda surreal.
I am home and have lots of support. Mom is here and of course I have Steve and little man. I am trying to do all the right things. I am walking around the house every hour- and of course when seated the doorbell has rung twice in the last half hour. I am sipping water right as I type. I realized that I had finnished off a part of a bottle, but had not measured so now I am trying to keep track. I have done I think pretty well with my eating though I have no appitite. Mom made me some thinned oatmeal for breakfast I ate about 45 cc's. It tasted fine.
The hospital is really nice as I have said before, but the lag time I had the first night left something to be desired. I can honestly tell you that IF i had not been discharged last night I would have been irate by the end of the night. The nurses coming in were NOT anywhere near the quality of the ones I had been under the care of the prior 3 days. I was glad to go home. And I will be calling the nursing staff supervisor for 7B. It was kinda funny as the gal who was with transport heard me saying to Steve that I would be calling today and went out of her way to be EXTRA nice. She was fine no issues with her.
While in the hosptial I had the care of many doctors and NP's. I was really impressed with the team care aspect of the bariatric program. They were very considerate, and helpful. I also think that is a huge plus to the program. The nursing staff was great for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. I also have to say that the PCA I had was dynamite. So, aside from the glitches the first night and the tude of Thurs pm before I discharged all was good. I even had nice dietary and housekeeping staff.
I am glad to be home, but very sore on the left side. NO surprise to anyone I am sure. I am wearing my binder and learning how to move with the least amount of pain. (that is of course until the cat decides to make a wrong choice and I have to act quickly.) I have gotten pretty good at the stairs in the house and ground floor is no problem at all.
Today I am having my strained goodies from some soup and it tastes good so far.
I have not had buyers remorse and so far not too emotional, but I am aware that may still happen. Trying hard to be realistic.
Thank you again for all of your support.
I did not take as much meds day two as I needed day three, but hey we are all different.
Take care and I will write again soon...Teach/Sol
PS- it's good to be home!

Nothing like being home and sleeping in your own bed! Keep up your routine! You seem to have it down pat! Mom...you watch her and make sure is getting her fluids! They are very very important...especially to RNYers! Thinking of ya and hoping you continue on such a good path of recovery!
I tried real hard and drank all day, but was unable to drink my evening protien drink....just tooooo full from dinner....still at 950! I am going to work on that tomorrow, and keep plugging away.
Felt good enough to ride a cart at wal*mart to get my meds. Made me sore though as there was no smooth slow to stop. Ah, we live and learn.
Mom is really keeping me on track..
Home health nurse came today and will be back 5 times over the next 10 days or so. She was happy with my progress. I think that is good.
I hurt a bit tonight, but have been at night.
Off to slumber land and will check in tomorrow and tell you all my progress.

Hey Teach,
I had the lap band not as radical as you but still very sore on the left side. A few things that helped me was holding on to a pillow or large stuffed animal to cough, reposition, get up etc. I also slept on my couch the first 3 nights because it kind of elevated my back a little so there was no stretching or pulling at the incisions. I also went totally bra free and just covered up with a blanket it helped not having the elastic or underwires dig into my chest. I walked about every 30 minutes I also sat on the couch and stretched my arms and legs and feet a lot.
Good luck i am very excited for you.
