Can someone tell me if Georgetown Bariatric perfoms the DS?

I signed my fiance up for a seminar for April 11 with Georgetown Bariatrics because they participate with his insurance and I have heard great things about them. After extensively viewing their website, I see no mention of the DS procedure.  I see Banding and Gastric Bypass, Im not aware if the DS is considered a form of of bypass or not? Any info would be great! I will call them tomorrow but I was hoping someone might see the post and be able to tell me tonight if they perform that one. Thanks in advance!

Hi Shea.  I emaled Dr. Sonnanstine this evening just to make sure before I answered your question. He does not perform the DS. He did tell me to reply to you with this message...that he will be happy to speak to you personally the night of the Apirl 11th meeting..  Please be sure to approach him with your questions.  He will go into detail giving you facts about the procedure, outcomes, etc...good luck with whatever you choose.

Hi...i just found out that Sonnanstine does except medical card now...I'm so happy...just wondering if maybe you can asks him something for a lot of us. Is there any way that he can waive the program fees that we paid at ST Luke  to Georgetown? wouldn't hurt to asks him.

By the way,  that program fee is across the board.  Georgetown no longer has a program fee!!!

Dr. Sonnanstine is very excited about the medical card.  You will not pay a program fee to see him

Thank you for the info! Its such a bummer to hear that they do not do the DS procedure there. Thats what my fiance had his heart set on. He now wants to look at other facilities/surgeons. Sigh. I am going to try and convince him to go to the seminar anyways. Thanks again

Dr. Husted performs the DS in KY and has taught other surgeons across the country to do the same.   Dr. Inman in Indianapolis is great too as well as Dr. Spaw in Nashville, TN.
I owed it to myself to research the duodenal switch before consenting to any other weight loss surgery and so do you.  Check out DSFacts.com and DuodenalSwitch.com for more information.  Remember think twice, cut once, revisions are risky and revision surgeons are rare.

I attended a seminar with Dr Husted back in December and decided then that I wanted to have the DS procedure. After relaying all the info to my fiance he feels that is the best procedure for him also. My insurance participates with Dr Husted as well as Lake Cumberland Hospital - his insurance participates with Georgetown and Dr Weiss (however they dont perform the DS).  I found out today that Lake Cumberland is on his insurance - just not sure about Dr Husted. Ill be calling tomorrow to find out. Cross your fingers for us!

Not that it helps with your situation, but Dr. Weiss did my VSG and he is great!

**AN UPDATE**
Well it appears that Dr Husted is the only Dr in KY performs the DS according to Dr Husteds office. A bummer that he isnt in network with my fiance's insurance (his insurance only pays for in network). So, thanks to all of your info, we are going to attend the seminar at Georgetown with Dr Sonnanstine on April 11 about Gastric Bypass. My fiance is a little dissappointed as he was determined to have the DS.. but hopefully he will be just as excited about the bypass. It would be great to speak with the doctor personally after the seminar as we will be traveling about two hours to attend.
