How did you decide??

I have had great results with RNY.  I chose it because I am a very impatient person.  I like immediate gratification.  LOL
I had almost no willpower and the RNY forced me to stick to the diet.........else I would have gotten VERY sick.  I knew I would not have been as successful with the band.  I would have cheated with high caloried liquids, etc.

Don't know a lot about the DS.

Others have had good results with the band and DS.
Everyone is different and needs or wants the procedure that is right for them.

I recommend going with your gut.  If one of them feels right to you - then go with it.

Best of luck to you!

Thank you all again for the posts! I love reading about everyone else's weight loss experiences. I spend hours on these boards! I am so excited to begin my journey! My fiance and I are both taking the road to weight loss surgery and all the information is appreciated.

I went to my seminar not exactly sure which way I was going but I was leaning toward the lapband.  A lady I worked with had one and had lost around 80 pounds.  I kept telling her that I was waiting to see how she did before I made up my mind.  When I went to the seminar and they passed the lapband around on a plastic stomach, that made up my mind.

I liked that they didn't have to cut me except for the incisions to get it in.  It takes me a long time to heal from surgeries and I wanted as few of cuts as possible.

I was told that the normal weight loss is between 60 and 80 pounds in a year.  As you can tell by my ticker, I have lost 141 pounds and every pound has been since surgery on April 17, 2008.  I know this is not a normal weight loss but it can happen.  Yes, I was told I had to keep my calories around 1000.  I eat around 1200 a day, sometimes more and sometimes less but it's enough for me.

You need to weigh all the options.  All of the above posts are very informative on various kinds of surgery.  But you will find yourself leaning toward one of the surgeries.  Good luck deciding.

Well, I went to the seminar thinking gastric bypass. I am very impatient when it comes to the things I want. LOL. You hear most people are at their goal weight within the first year so that really caught my ear. Also, with the LapBand, I didnt like the idea of having to adjust to fills every time and the idea of a foreign object in my body wasnt very appealing.

After attending a seminar, I was intrigued by the Duodenal Switch. That is the procedure I am leaning towards. I was afraid at first that my BMI (44) wouldnt be high enough for that. However, Dr Husted said there is no minimum for the procedure. I am learning everything I can about all of the procedures - as I am currently undecided.

My fiance (who has a BMI of 66) is definately interested in the DS.  We are planning on making this life change together. I think it will work out great! He is lucky, as we discovered yesterday that his insurance doesnt have the 6 month waiting period (mine does). His United Healthcare only requires a letter of necessity from his doctor, which we are going to retrieve today. So wish us luck!

Thanks for listening.
Shea
